Nope. Is the component switched to HDTV?

      Yes. 720p.

The text doesn't look right (you can see bleeding, not of colour but of the text echoing itself around the edges). The image is fine when moving... I've had similar experiences with component over the PS2, XBox and GC too. Maybe it's the ports.

It's only minor, but it is noticeable and something 480i RGB wastes it on.

I'm looking over some of the blade screens in the NTSC-uk feature now, and the same ghosting I'm seeing is there. Hmm. Maybe it's because I've been spoilt by RGB in terms of overall colour definition (the actual clarity of colour and resolution of the HD AV cable are fine).

I get that ghosting around text when in the xbox menus, especially on the evo menu.
          But doesnt happen elsewhere.

Yeah, it's mainly in the menus I see it (literally only noticeable on text). VGA is much sharper and the obvious remedy would be to pick up a cable when I can for the 360.

Standard videogame definition content looks like it's remaining on my 28" SDTV on RGB. The LG's native resolution means some games compare unfavourably when internally upscaled.

I got something similar on the original Xbox when I was using a cheapo unofficial component cable. The Xbox 360 is fine though. Same TV, same component input.

It's possibly electro-magnetic inteference. I usually have a few things running (PC, console, television) and all my gear is roughly in the same area. Then again, RGB was never affected and neither was VGA.

I think it's probably just the fact I've become used to the complete lack of noticeable image bleeding in RGB and so even the slightest hint of it is easy to pick up on. I'm making a hill out of a bump.

I've got a sharp, and the same thing happens in my dashboard. Thought it was a problem with the telly, but I guess it's more a universal problem. Don't notice it elsewhere.

This thread gives me the willies, there's no way from reading this thread im gonna be buying a flat panel for a long time. Until perhaps PS3 comes out.

All the bemoans and *nearly* as good etc, sounds like my 21" Hitachi is gonna be better for DVD, TV and all my consoles over RGB than any affordable LCD.

Concept - That#s strange actually, as I get the same thing when running a Component device through VGA using a Component-to-VGA transcoder! o.o Doesn't really annoy me as you gotta be pretty close to see it, and since I'm getting the VGA cable anyway.

Baseley09 - It does come across that way, and does feel like your jumping into the deep end at first... but once you cross over to the world of LCD/Plasma/DLP HD screens, you never look back. In fact, it makes a person particularly anal about their video/image quality.
My gran bought a gorgeous CRT TV last year, thought it was the most gorgeous picture ever and that nothing could possibly better it... but that's just because I didn't know what a truely crystal clear image looked like.

If you get a screen with decent RGB support (i.e something like the LG screens, not the Samsung), make sure it has HD-Ready certification, and make sure it has all the connections you want (VGA or DVI-I is essential for me, for example... but could be useless for others), then your sorted. It's simpler than it looks, cause you just get the screen to suit your needs. But I can see why it all feels a bit iffy at first.

If anyone can actually point me to a 32" Panasonic HD Ready plasma, then that's a lovely idea. Meanwhile, I've still got my eye on their LCD.

Have you seen the Panasonic 32LHD7, stunning picture for an LCD, fantasic processing and upgradeable inputs.

1366x768 resolution and the best black levels I have seen on an LCD.

Which one is that? I've never heard of that model. Any links?

I'm almost certain it's a factor of the connection type. I went down into town today in the slim hope of picking up a first or third party 360 VGA cable from somewhere, and went into GAME and Gamestation to check out the Samsung units using component. Low and behold, exactly the same ghosting in exactly the same places on PGR3 is appearing, and the whites in the demonstration unit of Call of Duty 2 also had slight echoing.

In PGR3, a lot of it is solveable by turning the brightness down (which is what GAME did to an extent, but up close you could see it) - the problem is the game is actually darker by default than the 360 dashboard (haven't tried other games), so the settings have to be altered between the two.

I'm somewhat relieved now. I thought I had something wrong with the component connections, when the same minor text echoing has happened on other hardware using the hi-def cable.

Yeah, I thought exactly the same thing, and thought my screen was messed up I guess VGA will have to be the connection of choice for the 360, although I'm waiting until the official MS leads are available freely, at decent prices. And I'll have to stump up for a VGA switchbox.......
