Question - Specifically for Samsung LE40 owners :

Got mine Friday - it's stunning all round bar one thing - regardless of the input source (360 via component/xbox1 via RGB/cable via SCART) I intermittently see flickering red "pixels" in areas of the screen which are very dark.

I'm going to phone today as I don't believe it's normal but my mate didn't think there was a problem - more that I was reading too much into it; however, it wasn't as bad when he saw it yesterday as it was when I saw it on Saturday.

You could live with it but I'm not willing to given the money spent - Anyone know what this is ? I'm 100% it's a fault. It's one of those things that once you've seen it you end up looking for it half the time !!!

Hmmm I heard of this before over on AV forums im sure m8, are the pixels always red coz thats a dead subpixel if it is

a static red pixel is indeed 'dead' but it's not a bright pixel therefore apparently acceptable when talking about samsung screens. if it was a bright pixel (ie; white) then it'd be a returnable fault, likewise if you had a cluster of 3 or more joined red pixels.

i'd have a word but be prepared to be told it's not really a fault

Bad! From what I remember reading, it'll only get worse. It's not a dead/stuck pixel issue.

Nah that's not it - it's not static. Wherever the picture is dark (i.e I can control it in games like FPS by adjusting the camera view) there are clusters of red firing off within the dark area.

Definately not dead pixels or lit pixels !!! They're not static ! There are no DP or LP's that's what makes this worse

get on the phone then, they're obviously mis-firing... get it sorted

                He's phoning me back !!!

Dammit there's always something - at least I can live with it for now !!!

Sounds like a problem with the source like a bad DVD rip or maybe the cable is naff or even the socket itself is ****ed. All things you should look into, especially the cables your using!

Think hes getting it from various sources rossco, maybe you could run the auto image adjust stuff and check that youve set up the color warmth and all that kinda stuff as well

There was a guide on these forums about the sammie and settin it up ill try and dig it out

My mate had 3 Samsung plasmas that had dancing red pixels in the dark areas.
What happens when you turn the black level (brightness) down? Do they disappear? I know on plasmas the green pixels are always the ones to light first and to set black level you stand at the screen and knock the brightness back until the black bars are solid and noise free. I have just looked on my Panny LCD and don't see any lit pixels at all though no matter how high I turn the black level up, so it sounds like the fault that loads of Samsung plasmas have is also present on their LCDs, it is the electronics and not the screen by the way, get it swapped as it will only get worse.

I recommend the LG 26LX2R personally, I've found it great for my 360 and for watching upscaled DVDs etc.,and last gen SD stuff still looks pretty good on it.

Play have this Sammy with built in Freeview, here. I demoed one of these before going for the LG and I wasn't really feeling it, but a lot of peeps here are very happy with it.

Obviously if you spend more you can get something much better, like a Sony or Panny etc. but for your budget these two seem like a good bet. Play also offer this one, but I have no experience with it so I don't know if it's any good.
