      Hope you like it.

Remember to calibrate it properly when it arrives. Use a THX optomiser from a DVD and also don't be afraid to tweak the individual colour values to get a picture you're happy with. My Toshiba had overpowering reds out of the box, but it looks much nicer now that I've corrected it.

Also remember to turn the backlight right down when watching a film in a dark room. You'll never get a proper black from an LCD, but with the backlight on 10-20 it'll look a lot blacker than when it's on 90-100. (which looks fine in a regularly lit room)

Oh yeah, you can tweak LCDs a *lot*. Far, far more options than you get on a CRT. I ended up adjusting mine a lot, and tried several different DVDs on it before I was satisfied it looks it's best with them all.

Due to a colossal screw-up on my part, it now looks like I'm going to be getting rid of my projector (and I'm just waiting on payment for my current LCD) so I'm now thinking about picking up one of the 46" XD1Es as well, as I just can't go back to a small screen after having it. (had about a 60" image)

VGA is almost certainly not going to be able to do 1080p, component might, but I would still expect 1080i from it. Most 1080p sets will only accept 1080p digitally. For me, the component > VGA adapter thing isn't an issue, unless it does actually do 1920x1080 over VGA. (otherwise I would only want to use component and leave it always connected)

The good news is that it's confirmed it will have a "dot by dot" mode, so you'll be able to get 1080p 1:1 mapped via HDMI. All we need to find out now is if you can disable all/any processing when doing that so it's usable as a huge monitor. Using HDMI might also mean that you'll get 50Hz 1:1 mapped which would be very handy for HTPC owners. No word on 1080p24 yet.

It's certainly looking to be a great set with a 6ms response time using no overdriving, and 4ms with it enabled.

Unfortunately Sharp has pushed back the release 3-4 weeks, and I'll probably be back on a 14" portable CRT for that time.

Do you mind if I ask what colour settings youv've settled with? I have the 32" version, and I've got my backlight/contrast/brightness set to, IMO, the right level now. There is definitely a red bias though so I need to do something to change this. If I could have your settings for now, then that would give me a good idea of where to start. After that I can adjust and tweak it to suit any colour bias that my TV is producing

                  My settings are:

                  Back Light = 75, Contrast = 92, Brightness = 45, Colour = 40, Tint = 0, Sharp = 0, Black Stretch = OFF, MPEG NR = LOW, DNR = LOW, Colour Temp = WARM.

                  And in Base Colour Adjust:

                  Colour Hue Sat Bright
                  ----------------------------
                  Red +6 -6 0
                  Green -8 0 -9
                  Blue 0 0 0
                  Yellow 0 0 0
                  Magenta +10 -10 0
                  Cyan -10 -7 0

I lower the back light to around 15 or so when watching in low light.

                    whats the difference?

                    As I've seen this: https://secure.121electricals.com/detail.asp/sku=

I got my Panasonic TX26LXD60 over the weekend and i absolutley love it, its superb. I have only been using SD stuff on it so far but its been impressive still. I watched 'Howls Moving Castle' on dvd last night and it was great, the colour was so clear and the picture was really sharp, even my girlfriend commented on how good it was which is very unusual for her.

Other things i have used are my PS2 through scart, which seemed better than i imagined it being, GT4 looked pretty nice. My DC through scart looks pretty cool too, i've been playing Border Down on it and have had no problems. I'm looking forward to getting something HD to put into it now, it may have to be a 360. Its also pretty cool that it has 2 HMDI inputs, but no VGA which is a bit of a pain.

haven't you tried anything on component yet, i personally would have went out and bought a comp lead instead of playing it first through scart.

They each have their strengths and weaknesses. LCD is generally higher resolution than plasma (try finding a 1920x1080 res plasma for anything less than a small fortune...!), but they have poor black levels and can be less than forgiving on poor quality inputs. (such as a PS2 or standard definition TV)

Plasma has better blacks and (in my opinion) a rather richer picture, but the screen resolution is often very poor (many plasmas struggle to reach even 1280x720) and they can have some nasty colour afterblur effects.

The DVD is through component, and i will probably get component leads for the PS2 but i'm broke enough as it is after buying it, plus i need to buy a decent component switchbox as there is only one component connection. Its actually quite nice at the moment having the DVD, Xbox, PS2 and DC all connected at the same time, plus because its quite a small screen i probably don't notice the lack of quality as much as i would on a 42 inch.
