LCD/Plasma/CRT/DLP - questions

I've decided to give it till the new year & see what there are in the sales.

Would prefer the best SD quality I could get & if you think that display will be a false economy I'm then I'll give it a miss.

Will keep an eye out for a cheap Bravia.
Any recommendations for other brands I should look at?

26WLT66 can be had for just over ?500, a few people on here have them. They Handle SD very well too

In May, yeah, but I wasn't betting on 1080p ones becoming available at these prices this quickly!

Can't see any pixle probs mate, bleeding does seem to be an issue with these sets. Mine seems to be fine so far, can notice some in the bottom right if i crank the backlight right up and turn power saving to off.

But under normal use nah, no issues at all matey.

Can anyone tell me how expensive quality 1080 HD Plasma TV these days from like of Loewe / Toshiba / Sony / Phillip / Panasonic / Pioneer. ie something bigger than 46 inches. (ideally with more than 2 HDMI input)

You have two choices at the moment if looking at 50", the Pioneer 500 at around ?6k and the Panasonic screens, the commercial one is getting glowing reports at ?4200, the TV consumer version is getting OK reports, not sure on price.

The Pioneer is getting slated like mad, it is actually an NEC made panel I believe in a Pioneer frame.

Fujitsu are releasing their 1080p screen in spring at ?6999. Should be good, but for that mony you could buy a panny and a scaler, far better

You can also buy the 50" panny commercial screen for around ?1600, and 99% of people would not be able to tell which was the 768p panel and which was he 1080p panel even when both are next to each other and being fed the same signal.

Buy one of them now, and buy a 1080p in 3 years for ?1000 when they are better and the extra resolution actually makes a difference.

The price is way out of my league. 720P is pretty good anyway on my Loewe 32 inch LCD. I hope it will be affordable and possible to buy a wireless 1080P projector / plasma screen in 2009 in my new home.

We are all greedy for bigger and better picture.

ouch, that looks awful - i'll testify the W series via composite and component look superb

That's because the PAL Wii is sending out PAL60 which never looks as good as real NTSC on any LCD TV I've seen (much harder to comb filter).

BTW Andrew, you realise the settings I gave your friend were mine and were meant for running over Component and not Composite PAL60? That bottom shot looks hideous

I can certainly testify that my NTSC Wii didn't look anything as bad as that over Composite, as I'm sure Lyris can... but my god that's nasty.
