Not sure if anyone here has heard of the Value Electronics shootout, but each year, a guy named Robert Zohn in Scarsdale, New York, assembles the six best panels, has them all calibrated to their best, then invites the public in to decide on which one is "the king of HDTV". Kevin Miller, an expert calibrator from the US, and charter member of Imaging Science Foundation, basically chairs it. Dewayne Davis ("D-Nice"), a very well known and respected calibrator, has also taken part in the last few years too.

This year there was a truly distinguished guest - Dr Larry Weber, the co-inventor of flat panel TVs. He came and gave a presentation on how Plasma TVs were invented, and the difference between them and LCD.

This year I was one of the invited calibrators and speakers alongside Kevin and Dewayne.

The whole thing is on YouTube.

^ Awesome. I had no idea that Dr Weber had a presentation since I missed the start of day 2.

I should probably catch up on day 2 as it clearly isn't an identical repeat of day 1.

Thanks for those awesome links lyris. Really in-depth watching. I thought i was going mad and loosing my mind, i've been seeing like ghost like shadows with words and stuff on my panasonic.

                  Do I need a 3D TV?

I've been looking about again today and I can't seem to be able to justify the extra cost between a 40 inch just HD or a 40 inch 3D model.

I'm about to buy a new TV tomorrow. It happens to support 3D but I doubt I'll ever use it.

I watched the videos and thought they were great David.
                        Nice one mate.

The VT50 looks very good, I just don't trust Panasonic anymore after the VT30. It was my first Viera after half a dozen Pro Panels and it was so terrible quality wise that I bought another Kuro.

Shame as when it was doing things right it was great.

If the 50 series is still getting praise in a few months I may grab one.

You got it! Outstanding bang per... pound!

Was going to get one today, but apparently stores are having trouble keeping them in stock - which is annoying but makes me very glad to hear.

Thanks! Have a watch of the whole playlist if you're into the science behind it all. Kevin Miller, a real colour science expert, did a great job as always. In fact I'm gonna watch the part on colour decoding to fill in gaps in my own knowledge.

Just picked up my new Sony KLD-37EX723. Managed to get it for ?400 as I got my local Sony Centre to match Currys at ?450 a told them I didn't want to BR player you got "free" so got them to take another ?50 off.

I've read the 3D is "patchy" with some crosstalk but I tried it and didn't notice anything terrible. I doubt I'll use the 3D much so its not a big deal.

Can't wait to get home and set it up in my Man-Den!!

Probably been asked before, but whats best to use to clean a plasma screen? need to get rid of some dust and finger prints.
