Got my 32" Sammo set up this evening. It's lush. No problems at all. Sky looks good. I softmodded my PAL xbox to NTSC and enabled 480p and 720p. Very nice. In fact, it looked pretty good in 480i to my eye.

I'll have to adjust the picture a bit I'm sure but it's ok right now.

I'm just waiting on a plug adapter for my oppo upscaling dvd and we're set. It saves so much space in my living room compared to my old 32" Sony CRT which is massive.

One question - how come the TV picture is still cut on the left and right? For example, watching Lost tonight, and all the text display on the side was cut. I had it in my head that that problem would go away. Is the TV transmitted that way?

At the mo i dont have enough money for an hdtv, so i was wondering using the vga cables, and buying a cheap monitor that can display at leat 1024 x 720, would i get the High Definition pictures.

It would need to be accept 1280x720 to be true HD, though the above will work (1024x600 would be the nearest 16:9 equivelent to what you suggest).

The XBox VGA cable can display at multiple resolutions, including 800x600, 1024x768 etc, though obviously you'll want 1280x720 minimum for 'true HD'.

1280x720 is a widescreen resolution, and widescreen PC monitors aren't cheap. You can use a normal monitor, though make sure it takes 1280x1024 resolution, then you can play in letterboxed.
If you get an LCD monitor, make sure you can adjust the image size, as some will stretch the widescreen image to full screen and not let you change it.

You can use an old 1024x768 monitor and have 'almost-HD'.

Rosco: My tracking on Parcel Force has been blank since it shipped, however at 5 this morning it arrived at the Exeter depot (local) and at 6 this morning it is "out for delivery".

Still don't think they are broadcasting many shows in widscreen in the UK, even on Sky from what I understand !

Hopefully. I will only be home for an hour before going to the pub, so it'll just be thrown (read: put very very carefully) in place. I don't actually own any cables I can output consoles in high def yet, so my PC will have to do

Lost is definitely broadcast in 16:9, as are tonnes of other things. Have you told your digibox that you've got a 16:9 TV in the settings menus?

Oh, it's easy to forget when you upgrade to a widescreen set; my parents didn't know for months until I saw the picture one day when I went to see them and fixed it. Anything American or BBC is usually your best bet for 16:9 goodness.

My Sharp LC26GAE arrived this morning (thanks for helping me make my mind up all) Im very pleased with it so far, but i cant try any HD stuff out untill i get my 360. One thing has got me worried though. Where/how do i plug in the audio leads for the 360 on the tv? there is a small socket near the component, HDMI sockets with "L/R audio" but the 360 from what i can tell (both component and VGA leads) only have the normal red/white plugs for sound. Now the tv has them, its just they are miles from the component sockets. Is it possible to stick the audio leads into the red/white sockets, and still get the sound when using the component/VGA leads? My guess is ill end up with sound on one side and picture on another.

This is all new to me, so sorry for being a noob
