Might be of interest to some.

PDF of the new Sharp LCD models.

    http://media9.filewind.com/g.php?filepath=3063 (found on AVS)

Hopefully there wont be too many changes by the time they reach the UK.

I find the prospect of a 32inch LCD with full 1080p resolution, 3 HDMI, 2 component and 1 DVI-I input quite appealing (page 16).

      I bet this becomes:

      3 HDMI (if we're lucky)
      1 Component
      2 RGB SCART
      DVI-I changed into VGA

2 Component inputs doesn't seem to be happening in Europe. The manufacturers haven't grown out of SCART yet even although plenty of us have. I keep putting pressure on them at every opportunity I get to give us 2 sets of Component inputs but who knows if it'll ever happen.

Your probably right although I reckon that only 1 of the scarts will be RGB. According to the specs one of the component inputs is side mounted so hopefully they may leave it alone (he hopes).

edit-Downloaded a few HD-WMV clips to my pc and streamed them via my 360 to the TV. Dl'd a very nice National Geographic one which would impress the missus more rather than seeing GoW in HD. There doesnt seem to be much in the way of wmv-hd stuff about though which is a shame.
          Glad to help.

With regard to WMV-HD, you're going to have to go out and source it yourself unfortunately. There are some torrent sites with US TV shows in high-def (usually 720p though, not 1080p/i) which you can transcode using WinAVI to WMV-HD... trouble is most of the sites are invite only.

There is some anime available in HD too, such as Ergo Proxy. You have to hunt a little for it though.

This is mainly to Andrew, but also to any other Toshiba WLT68 owners. I always had my 360 via VGA on my Samsung because it looks better, but seeing as some people say they prefer Component on this set I borrowed a cable from work and it definatly does look better, not sharper (infact maybe less sharp) but clearly 'better'.

I'm not sure why this is- maybe because the options can be changed on the TV itself (colour etc) but it really does look better, especially on HD-DVD's. I have also tried 1080p and to my suprise it worked, now I know the TV accepts it and will downscale it to the natural screen res but to me it looks better then 720p on the TV. I'm not sure if it's in my mind however as I know that it is outputting the higher resolution.

What resolution do you run your 360 in via component with this TV and why?

            Cheers!

I run mine in 720p, as this is the native screen resolution of the tv.

Really? That's pretty rare! Most are 1366x768. Certainly the WLT68 is.

I run mine in 1080i. It gives noticably more detail from HD-DVD movies, and there's no real visible quality difference in games dispite the upscaling.
I'm using a Bravia S mind, which is excellent with 1080i. I'm assuming the WLT68 is too.

My guess is that it's because sub-pixel rendering can essentially "fake" the extra resolution, so you're not really going to be losing any detail (it just won't be quite as obvious) but also with HD-DVD it means that the TV is handling the downscaling rather than the 360 which means it's going to be vastly superior as the WLT68 is amazing at it.

The other thing I've heard is that with analogue you're best to be running in the highest resolution possible as oversampling will result in a higher resolution ending up on the display. (obviously it's still going to be 1366x768 but it'll be a better looking 1366x768)

Out of interest, does the Toshiba WLT68 series properly detect 3-2 pulldown for 1080i movies? Does it show any jaggies during playback? Has anyone tried it with the disc of HD test patterns that you can download (I'll find the link if anyone's willing).

I would imagine that it does, as it uses dual-pass deinterlacing, but as it supports 1080p you're not really going to be doing any 1080i deinterlacing. (unless you're upscaling DVDs with an older player I guess)

Just took delivery of a Toshiba 32WLT68. Got to say out of the box the picture quality is terrible, even with all the processing junk turned off. Going to have a fiddle but Im completely underwhelmed

Or playing HD DVDs with an HD-A1 or HD-E1. The Xbox 360 can output HD DVDs in 1080p over Component, right?

the 3:2 is optional and can be turned on or off manually, is this what you wanted to know?

Does it work properly when it's set to On?
