    1. Nope
    2. Nope
    3. Yep

Some TVs black out video oddities like this, looks like yours is just showing them.

Brilliant, thank you. It's does take a while to settle down. I think it's something to do with the TV not liking the RGB signal, because as soon as I turn it off (Via the little button on the Argos LOL Selector) it stops.
Ah well at least no Massive damage is being inflicted. Thanks again.

Another LCD n00b question - I've read up on the image persistence problems you get on laptops in areas of the screen that don't change, i.e. task bar, etc. Is this something I should be worried about re games with HUDs or would I literally have to have them on screen all the time to create a problem? How long is it 'safe' to have a still image on the screen at once and what could I do to prevent any ghosting etc etc?

It doesn't really happen with LCD screens anymore, it used to be a problem , but even then you'd have to have the same image on screen for literally hundreds of hours in a row.

I've seen an LCD that was completely ruined by burn in. It was left on all the time (24/7) showing Windows with a couple of dialog boxes that were always changing. The start bar and the borders of the dialog boxes are etched into the screen!

That LCD was one for hours and hours though before anyone noticed. LCDs are fine for normal work/TV situations.

You should only really get that problem for two reasons these days:
              1. You're a bit of a nob. (See Soi's post above)
              2. You actually put some effort into ruining your TV. (See post 1)
It may be more likely if you're buying your LCD from shops like Asda's, Liddle, etc and paying about ?30 but you do seem to be safe with branded TVs as the LCD tech has been improved over the years.

Thanks for that guys, I was under the impression it was a 'thing of the past' provided you don't kick the arse out of your telly, but wasn't sure. Now I can play Halo 3 without worrying about seeing after-images of Master Chief's ammo counter for the rest of my days

I believe the types of panels in TVs are totally free from this problem. I believe Sony India promotes their LCD TVs as "Burn-in proof".

My brother's Sony PC monitor does seem to have retention though. No idea if it's permanent or what type of panel is inside it.

While I agree with your sentiment, I wouldn't advise taking the marking spiel of Sony India as gospel!

Joking aside, many countries (e.g. Hong Kong, where I guy I know works) have far more lenient towards what advertisers can say about your goods than in the UK.

India? It must be true then

I didn't think coming from Sony India made it totally non-credible, but I don't know much (anything) about advertising laws there, either.

Can anyone recommend a good DLP projector that doesn't suffer from any input lag and doesn't cost a fortune (at most around £1200).

Sorry to bother the HD / AV guys again but I have another question!

Re: my thread about my LCD making weird noises: Is there a known issue with Samsung LCDs having bad speakers? After doing a couple of searches a lot of people have posted reviews on various sites saying the speakers went defective about a month after buying the set, which is exactly how long I've had mine.

I know it's the speakers and/or sound components that's at fault because today I put the set on to twiddle, and the sound has completely stopped working. The screen seems fine though. After hearing the horror stories about Comet and Samsung repair centres I'm almost afraid to get it seen to now if it's only going to break again It's not like I use the speakers anyway, I've got my consoles wired into my stereo.

Take it back to Comet and demand a replacement.

If only it were that simple. As anyone who's had the misfortune to deal with Comet's alleged 'customer services' will know, they will do all they can to delay the inevitable replacement / refund for as long as legally possible.
