I am actually not bothered if my gameplay order for the Xbox 360 turns up - sure I will be a bit disappointed but the money can be used for all those wonderful PS2 titles that are coming out from now till next March/April. Heck, I may find out whether the games are good or not, therefore I can wait till the price drop when the PS3 comes out or around the time.

    Hmmp.

I pre-ordered with Amazon within an hour of so of it appearing on the site so i'm hoping to get it. It would be nice to know how short the supply is.

went into my local gamestation and asked about pre-orders

the manager stated they were told to take no more at the last managers conference but they seemed quite upbeat about fullfilling all the preorders which stand at 24 units

they have zero (0) perorders for the cheapie system - i asked if they were definately going to get some in and he said yes - personally that made me happy since i'm first in line - hurrah

but i also preordered today at Comet for a nice ?10 deposit - i asked about shortages and the guy laughed and told me they were expecting hundreds and hundreds of machines. But they cannot take specific orders for the cheap or more expensive package, just told him if they sell out of the more expensive 1 i would like my money back as i want the complete package

think thats the difference between buying from a game shop or a electrical goods retailer - he doesnt have a clue about the shortage issue

I was in Comet today and my local one aren't taking preorders yet. The manager said he attended a conference recently and they were warned of serious shortages for the 360 full pack but they should be opening preorders very shortly (indeed some Comet's are taking them already).

I phoned my local Gamestation and they only have 5 guaranteed launch day full packs-I'm no 5 on the list and I ordered 1 day after their official cut-off

I think MS are launching too close to Christmas, and (from what we've been told) with not enough stock.
But would you rather them launch before christmas with minimal stock or a month or 2 after christmas with plenty of stock? I know which one I prefer

I just today put a tenner down in my local (city,London) branch of WHSmiths and I'm number 6 on the list. They "say" that they have been told by head office they can expect at least 10 units on the 2nd if they have that many preorders. They did not think they would have any spare stock, their allocation is preordered units only.

I'll keep my 17th August Play.com order for now but I'll maybe cancel it closer the time.

for once i am gonna wait till the inevitable things happen like:

                              price drop
                              really decent games come out
a 'limited edition' 360 gets released
the ones without faulty drives/ power leads etc come along
retailers start trying to out do one other with lower and lower price 'bundles'
all the so so launch games are out on budget 3 months down the line

Yes, i am a cynical old git, but the above are all things which cheesed me off in the past with my early adopting antics!

Plus I just ain't that fussed by the whole 360 thing, c'mon microsoft,
enthuse me - i dare ya!

I don't see any limited edition xbox 360s being released outside of launch. Unlike with the Xbox, the console can be fitted with custom "jackets" which will differentiate one from another, as I'm sure you'll have heard about.

The console already does practically everything you'd expect from a home entertainment system too - ?275 is a good enough price when you think about it, its more or less the same price as an ipod and I know which I'd rather have.
