    4) You can't use the old Cube Freeloader, you'll need to buy one of the new Wii compatible ones. Or get a mod chip.

    6) Nope, you'll still need your Cube memory cards.

      2) Not possible at the moment.
But esol published a press release stating that their
software for (fat) filesytem and usb host has been choosen
      by nintendo for its wii.
So in future connecting an usb mass-storage might be possible.

Thanks for that both of you!

Hopefully a HD will follow, I know you can keep downloading games you've paid for but something like a 10gb HD would be perfect to get everything you could need onto.

I've had a 1gb SD card for ages now, I may just upgrade to a larger one as they are fairly cheap. I think 4gb is the largest at the moment?

Yeah , I'd spend out and get a quality one like Verbaim - when the time comes I'll just get a 4GB beast. Don't want to erase all my saved games now do I!

Also, I have a question: the person I bought my Wii from is prepared to take it back to a shop should a fault develop - I'll have to cover shipping obviously, however I'm wondering how long the warranty is. I think it's only 3 months in the US?

Should it be past this date, are there people in the UK capable of repairing a Wii if its past warranty? I know the faulty rate is low but it's still there.

          DAMN MODERN TECHNOLOGY!

Nintendo usually put together good quality hardware so I'd hope it would last 12 months without any problems.

The standard warranty is 12 months here, I'm not sure about the US though?

I imagine that you'd be able to find people to repair it online fairly easily by searching through forums. That way people are quite open about how well the repair job went.

            EDIT:
What's the biggest SD card people have used? is it true that 4gb is the largest it supports?

Here's how to think like a hardened import gamer:

"If it DOES break, the cost of shipping it to the US and back for repairs won't be so bad compared to all the money I've saved from not buying PAL games".

hey guys, i just brought this on amazon, will it make my NTSC wii work on our power supply?

                Comment

Ok.. So I'm thinking of diving in an getting a US Wii (the missus has said she wants one.. Result!!)

So. I must be thick or something, but I'm not sure about the following (although I've read the guide)..

Postage costs from the US for a Wii..
Purchasing VC titles on a US Wii when in the UK (does this still work?

Basically - set your system country to Brazil (reason : Brazil matches card details on post code only - not on country, state, etc... and accepts no numeric characters)

Enter your credit card details in the card charge screen, enter you UK post code, TADA!!! there you go! you now have points!!!)

Will my stepdown converter for my US Gamecube work on my Wii (details to come)

How much should I be paying for a us Wii?
                  Anyone on ntsc-uk selling one?

Sorry for being a complete retard, but can anyone help (I promise I'll back track through the posts on this thread in the mean time)

                  Thankee Muchly.

You said it! I've just reassembled my good old SNES to kill the nostalgia, and it just impressed me how this 15 year old baby never gave me a single problem.

I'm also curious to know someone's opinion on that item. Seems interesting.

Also, could any of you experts tell me what would I need to have a NTSC Wii running in Portugal, since our plugs are like this one

Our Wii's power supplies say at the back:
                    PRI:220V ~ 50HZ 52W
                    SEC: 12V ~ 3.7A

I wonder if that power supply hillbiyy mentioned would work here, plus a 3 pin to 2 pins converter I have here.

                    Thanks in advance!

Surely so. I'm kinda confused why you need to ask (and why hillbiyy asked - that's why I just ignored him). The only difference between US & European Wii power-bricks is the input voltage - the output connector on the power-bricks & the DC voltage accepted by Wiis worldwide is exactly the same. So any power-brick sold as Wii-compatible will be fine in the UK & for the voltages you quote, as long as it accepts something like 220v - 240v. If it accepts 110v then that's just a bonus.

In practice this means that countries such as the UK that previously supplied 240 V continue to do so, and those that previously supplied 220 V continue to do so. However equipment should be designed to accept any voltages within the specified range, and in practice most do so.

So did anybody try out an S-Video cable in the end? I've just set up my US Wii today and the picture quality is frankly appalling after getting used to RGB SCART. The menu text in Zelda is so blurry I can't even read it and all the straight lines have grown fur coats! S-video seems the only other option for me since I don't have a TV with component inputs.

S-Video performance really varies on TV to TV. I've some that do a great job and have nice detail, and others that basically look like Composite minus the dot crawl.

16:9 CRT with component input really is the best way to go if you want the proper Wii experience.

Rock a Toshiba picture Frame or the 1080i JVC and you are, well, rocking.

Thanks Lyris. I've literally never used an S-Video cable but since I can't afford a new TV it will have to do. Even if it just gets rid of the dot crawl, it would be something. I'm pretty confident in my TVs abilities though so hopefully it will put out a better picture.
