If that cable sharpens the picture at all I'll definately be getting one!

I doubt it will, unless your TV is blurring the already blurry Wii Component input - but it's worth a shot!

The signal the Wii outputs right now is pretty much beyond salvaging though. I have a Gennum VXP video scaler sitting here and it can't do much to make it much nicer to look at.

I originally thought that Nintendo were turning on the Flicker Filter for everything, but the Wii doesn't look anything like as bad when you set it to 4:3 (it still looks filtered though).

IS it possible/likely that somebody could bypass all this crap using a chip or other mod?

        Comment

Yes, I think so. The problem is that most gamers don't seem to be AV freaks so don't really care enough to demand it. I imagine most of the people making mod chips just want to bypass the copy protection and region codes more than anything else

I should point out though that I don't know the Wii hardware that well and could be talking crap. Instead of a deliberate softening it could easily just be a quirk with how the Wii handles widescreen. If any developers out there could tell us then it'd be great...

Yes, I had Mario Strikers, but for the PAL console. I know I can play against europeans I add with friend codes, but I was really wondering about random matches (those are the ones we'll be playing 90% of the time).

Or you can simply set your country to Brazil. That allows us, european users, to purchase VC points via credit card normaly for NTSC consoles.

It works like the DS online games - there is a regional matchmaking server for each main region to ensure players get nearby opponents with as little latency as possible, but it *will* bring in players from other regions if there aren't enough on the local server. Using friends codes should allow you to play anyone in the world however.

Yes but that's credit card fraud.

No it isn't, if you use your correct postcode.

I'm not sure if I could answer that. I'm still waiting for the cable. It left Hong Kong on Saturday.
                  I don't plan on using it on a CRT/TFT monitor. I'll explain.
My Grundig TV is about 7-8 years old. So it's Standard Def. Wide/Flat screen 37". It has a D-Sub so with the 360 D-Sub cable I can set it to the first on the list in the dashboard. VGA 640x480. It's also set to Widescreen in the dashboard. I'm happy with the picture especially as a good HDTV is a bit out of my range at the moment.
So I plan to use it on the Grundig. However the highest resolution I can set it to is VGA 640x480 so I think I'm going to have to set the Wii settings to Normal screen. Then set the TV to widescreen or 16:9. It has a few settings on it.
Shame the Wii has no official VGA cable. Somebody the other day was complaining about the draw distance in Halo 3 and I said I never noticed it so I done some tests. It was only when I tried a RGB SCART that I got for Halo (50Hz) that I realised that was the problem. But the picture! I could never go back to that. Even though it's the same resolution as VGA being interlaced it was so different.
So I'm using S-video for the Wii and if this cable can do something similar I'll be very happy. If not I'll have to start thinking about a TV with component.
What are you using at the moment J.Parry? Sorry if you've already said.

I'm using a component cable to a screen set at 720p!

Got the cable this morning. It's an improvement for me but I don't think it will make the picture any sharper for you JP.

Can't remember, but, does the Wiikey US-NTSC Wii play PAL retail games?

Couldn't see anything with a quick search but apologies if this has been asked before......

Anyone know if N64 games like Starfox 64 include rumble support in their VC form (when using a GC pad)?

                          Thanks!

                              That's a pity....but thanks for confirming!

Can someone give me some advice re: stepdowns? I have one that I used for my Cube, and I think it says 60W on the bottom of it "suitable for PS2, DC, GameCube" etc

                                Will this be ok?
