Have either of you guys ever used another HDMI device on your sets?

As I've already said it is a very common problem with these TVs that the HDMI ports come loose and are broken.

I've not mate, no. I don't have anything else to try unfortunately. I'm still waiting on the firmware upgrade being sent to me, and if that doesn't work I'm getting someone to sort the port out for me.

When mine was faulty all I could get was a pale bluey lilac screen.

Mine just doesn't display anything at all, like any other channel when you select it but don't have anything turned on. Still, I can't see any reason why it can't be fixed, one way or another.

Try going into the menu and turning off the blue screen option, see what you get then.

Is HDMI much better than the official sony component lead? I have a HDMI cable for my DVD player currently and am just using my old PS2 component cable for PS3. I was under the possibly mistaken, belief that that Samsung model did not take 1080p and therefore there would be no noticeable difference in the 720p output from compnent or HDMI.

You're right in thinking that this model doesn't do 1080p, and as I can't test HDMI (or I wouldn't have needed to make this thread!) to see if it looks better, but given that my 360 is in the VGA port, and my Wii is in the component port, having the PS3 through HDMI would stop me from having to switch anything at all, which is why I want to sort it out.

I'd guess that the quality would depend on the quality of the HDMI lead you're using though?

True true, might test it later when i have finished work, the cable is ok and currently am running the 360, wii and PS3 through a Farmer switch box and they are all pretty good. I was thinking the same as you that I would just leave the DVD player in HDMI so i don't have to arse around switching wires!

Well I got a second hdmi lead to try out today and it still doesn't work. Pretty incredible if it is in fact my tv that has faulty hdmi ports, aswell as the one downstairs to.

                    Unless its my ps3?

Thinking about it, if I get a perfect picture at 480p with the hdmi lead, does that mean the ports on the tv and ps3 are working ok?

Maybe it is just a firmware issue.

Keith - have you received your cd yet?

                        I haven't mate, no.

I hadn't thought about trying it in 480p with the HDMI lead though...

...but mine doesn't work in 480p through HDMI, suggesting that it's a slightly different problem that I'm having.

Sod it, I'm buying a new TV.

Oh crap! I've only just spotted this thread, and I've got a PS3 and HDMI cable coming tomorrow, which I intend to connect to my Sammy LCD (same model and old firmware like yours Keith).

I got the firmware cd and cable from Samsung ages ago, but it would never work with my tv (couldn't get the tv and pc to communicate).

Fingers crossed my HDMI port works...

Yeah, thankfully it all worked fine for me.

I'm using the Samsung LE32R41BX with its original firmware (dated around April or May 2005 I think).

I got a Jap PS3 and a Blaze HDMI lead on Friday, hooked them up to the tv and got a picture straight away. When I checked the video settings on the PS3 it already had 480p, 720p and 1080i selected as my tv's supported resolutions, so I didn't have to change anything.

The picture quality is fantastic too. Probably the best I've seen on my tv
