New TV for my setup. 40" Bravia LCD.

Having kept my Tosh 32WL66 for only four months I've had to promise the missus that I'll keep this one for at least a year.

Anyway, top telly. Absolutely can't wait for the HD-DVD drive to become available...

Looks excellent - is that the 40S2030? I'm planning on picking one of them up if the Sharp I've got on order isn't up to scratch. (I'd prefer to have 1080p, but hate Sony's WCG-CCFL tech) What do you think of it compared to the Toshiba?

Hopefully the insurance company will get back to me in a day or two with good news about my repaired/new TV

I hope so! I was without a TV for 4/5 months last year due to a faulty Samsung LCD.

I wasn't planning on posting anything, but after seeing that, I felt I should. Just a quick snap I took the other week, so it's not great quality:

Not quite what I'm used to. It isn't tidy as I'd like, but as it's purely temporary, I don't see the point. (although it wasn't meant to be like that for this long)

Been like this for a month or two now, as I sold my 17" Sony LCD in preparation for a 46" Sharp... which was delayed, and then turned out to not be quite as good as I had been hoping, according to US forums, so I cancelled the order.

Some people are just getting their hands on them now over here, but it'd have been at least another few weeks before I got mine, and I can't stand this any longer, so I've gone and ordered an LC-37GE1E from Dabs, which shipped on Friday night. (hopefully it'll be here Monday!)

I'm determined to have a TV by the time Gears is out, which only gives me three weeks, and after spending days going over every set that's available, it looks like I'll be buying a 40s2030 if I'm not happy with this. I was pretty happy with the processing on the 32v2000 I had, but didn't like the wide colour gamut backlight. (Shame that all their 1080p sets use it, and next year all their TVs will)

I had also been looking at 720p Sharp for ?900 (good price as another "temporary" set) but no-one had them in stock.

I better not be waiting 4-5 months mate, that would drive me mad! I should also add for some reason, despite have a RGB SCART for the 360, everything the 360 kicks out to the TV is black and white!

No idea if the insurers are repairing or replacing the set yet, if they're replacing I'll push for the new Samsung F series (1080p) but I doubt they'll go for that! Can only hope.

Bloody Hell Andrew, you have had more TV's than me....

Anyway, it is indeed the 40S2030 and I'm more than happy with it. In fact now I've played about with the settings (The default is vivid with very oversaturated reds) I'm delighted.

SD broadcasts are handled far better than the Toshiba and 360 is as you can imagine, outstanding.

As I'm sure you know it's one of Sony's entry level 40"s, but picture wise I cant fault it. The only downside is a lack of connections however there is enough for me (Component for 360, RGB for Sky and HDMI for PS3).

On another slightly different subject, I'm about to get a new Telly for the main room and am thinking about a Viera TH42PX60B, this would be used for SkyHD and maybe another 360, does anyone have any opinions on this TV?

PS Mad Gear, I was just trying to prolong that 'new telly' feeling! Tis off now though

Stunning TV imo. My old mans got one get the 360 hooked upto it as often as i can, much better than any LCD i've seen.

That's not all of them either! It's crazy that I've ended up going through so many. I had one or two that I thought were going to stay, but something always cropped up that made me return them.

The Sony sounds great. As for being "entry level" - it uses exactly the same panel as the V series, and I believe the same processing too. The only difference is the look (I actually prefer the S2030 to V now, from what I've seen in photos) and the fact that it doesn't have the wide colour gamut backlight. (but that's a very good thing if you ask me)

I had the TH37PD60, and while I was initially happy, I started noticing a lot of things that annoyed me about it. (smearing, flicker, flashes of blue/yellow, green trails behind objects, image washed out unless in a dark room etc)

But if all you care about is pure black level in a dark room, then it's the right display for you. (seems to be all Plasma owners go on about - I never watch in a dark room, so maybe that's why I wasn't too keen on it)

                              Cheers Roost. Appreciate the feedback.

Coincidentally on a completely different subject, due to working yesterday morning and the TV arriving at about 1.00 I decided to miss my first home Stoke game for 4yrs and set the TV up instead. The result of the game I missed....5-0.
