Bit of a gamble buying used, but hey I fancied some big screen fun....
i don't think people actually realise that an average cheapass 2nd hand projector is actually pretty ****ing awesome, especially for games. i could've laid out ?800 for a 32" lcd or half that for a 2nd hand projector and have a screen as big as my wall.

i literally only use mine for games and the odd film.

If I had used a cheaper source for the bulb, the ae700 would have come in at 400 quid (new bulb & filter)

I literally just did a quid test against the blind, but hadn't expected the picture to be anywhere near as bright or clear. My HD-DVD add on thing is in transit, and for film I think the projector is a clear winner. (For normal use I have a 436xde plasma from pioneer)

I'm not sure if I could play all games on a projector though. Seems ok for driving games and film mostly.

So what model is the new one with 1080P support ? Just like to know.

How do you connect the 360 to the Projector, does it have VGA/DVI in or are you using component?

Also, do most projectors have more than one input source or do you have to get a switcher box?

Pannys tend to have a scart socket alongisde component, hdmi, vga , svideo and composite. My sanyo has 2 x component, hdmi, vga etc etc. The newer model Z5 has 2 x hdmi. Theres plenty of inputs.

Legendary, not sure what the laest Panasonic model is but the Sanyo PLV-Z5 supports 1080p over hdmi.

The old AE700 has: VGA, HDMI (DVI compatible) Component & scart.

I used VGA, but I think component is supposed to be better for this model, but I couldn't be bothered unplugging it from the plasma.

The AE700 is an old projector, it was out in 2004. Mine was bought in April 2005, and had 470 hours on it. Lots has changed since 2004, and there was the AE900 last year and now the new 1080p model is the PT-AE1000, (Not to be confused with the 100, which is only 720p)

I figured that as a very occasional user of a beamer, a used 720p seemed reasonable. I honestly had no idea the pictures were "That" good. The newer models must be just like having a 150inch plasma.....

The Z5 supports 1080 interlaced like the previous model.

Also like the Z4 the lcd panels are still 1280 X 720 so a 1080i image will be downscaled.

It should be pointed out that projectors need a little care in their use.
ie The lamp needs time to fully cool before turning back on again and the air filters need cleaning to prevent dust build up.

Heat is a projector killer and when the lamps cost 200+ you want to get the most life possible out of a lamp.

A darkened room is the best obviously and this puts some people off.

Lamp life can vary over different projector manfactures but look and hope for around 2000 hours.

Still for the image size vs money quotent projectors cannot be beaten at this time.

according to the user manual it supports 1080p over hdmi but yeah obviously the panels are still 1280 x 720.

Tbh capcom I dont think you'd see a huge difference between the 700 and 900. There certainly was that 'much' difference between the Z3 and Z4

Found anyway's around the issue that dont cost a fortune?

Looks quite good on the stand there as well.

Yeah its going great guns....as for the rgb i just dont use it, I have the Laserdisc in svideo through one scart & a digibox in the other, gotta get a component switch for all else i use its a bit of a task giving this tv the 'ol reach around lol.

As for that 1080i "problem", It didnt start till after a few hours after using it, not really in issue, the pic in that mode is as sharp as Sean Bean....tho I can notice it on XBMC's dark background.

Ok, im going to sound like a bit of an idiot here, but never mind, you have to learn somewhere!

Ive got 2x Xbox, 1x GC, 1x PS2, 1x X360 and my Wii. Is there such a thing i can buy that will control not only the sound outputs of each one (they are all running through my AMP atm) but also their connection to the telly so i dont have to keep unplugging one to connect another, or fart around with SCART boxes etc?

                            Many thanks in advance!

What connections are you using? If its scart, then you can get a Joytech Control Centre or for component a Farmer Box

Thanks matey!! The only thing that isn't SCART is my 360 which im using VGA, so i think that Joytech thing is Perfect for me!

Thanks a lot for your help!
