I've heard that it's something to do with a cloudy effect that presents itself on a black/very dark screen, but I've read that ALL the KDL40W200s suffer from this, some more than others - Can you please confirm if this is the case?
They don't all suffer from it, because after a few exchanges I managed to get a good one. Basically when you get it home, wait until it's night and then pause a dark scene from a film on screen. And make sure the panel doesn't look like this:

Remember that with a large screen LCD (or even a small one) you'll never get a perfect black and the dark grey that you do get will always have a slightly mottled look - it'll never be totally uniform. But I'm sure you'll agree some of the panels take the phrase "slightly non-uniform" to new extremes.

      Thanks again Lyris.

I bought the TV yesterday and so far it seems to be OK.

Problem I have today is I purchased some component cables to connect my Pioneer DV-575 to it and guess what - no picture!

I'm hoping it's not the TV because the DVD manual says if prog scan not available on your TV then you will get no picture. For god sake this does 1080p whats the problem here

That aside, I intend to get a PS3 as soon as I've got the dosh, so this component issue wont be a problem then.

Got the TV from Empire direct in Bolton - ?1099 - not a bad price!

I have the 575a and use it with component cables & progressive, connect it back up with regular cables go into home menu and select component/progressive out.

Yep, do as Baseley says. Don't worry, this TV accepts every resolution over the HDMI sockets: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

Please excuse the wiring, it's not as bad as that now, I took this pic a couple of months ago, after i'd just put the TV in.

            Sony KDF50E2010.
            Xbox 360 + HD-DVD add on.
Samsung HD850 (for my multi-regional needs).
            Sony Playstation 3.
            Nintendo Wii.
Sony STRDE598 amp with some big Sony speakers that are fairly good (although my centre speaker broke, i'll get round to replacing it one day).
Stand is a generic cheapy that the TV fits perfect, much better the garbage supplied one (I mean, ONE shelf?!).

I'll post whats left of my retro setup in the next few days, after i've moved it from the fire damaged room into another room.

Aha we have the same TV and DVD player setup in our living room, I only have the 360 on that screen, my ps3, Wii and PSTest are on a 26" sammy in the bedroom. Parents are funny about loads of consoles in the living room, only reason they like the 360 in the living room is so they can connect to my htpc and record / playback tv programs. Kinda funnny that they use the 360 for that but cant get the sodding vidoe to work lol.

              Cheers guys!

So getting no picture sounds correct does it? Because I haven't selected component/progressive out.

I was going to take the cables back today, but I'll give this method a try tonight instead!

Can't believe I didn't try that! Thanks, it works great now

It's noticeably better than RGB SCART, but it doesn't half punish badly authored DVDs - Fifth Element is a mess!

I still have that exact little tv.

The hifi has a mean look about it, they should make new hifis like that.

Wow! I remember the days when all I ever wanted was a hi-fi/getto blaster with tape-to-tape high speed dubbing for those Spectrum games!

                          EDIT: Here's everything I own.

Think I need a second bookcase now! ^_^

Nice setup Mark, I wish my stuff was all so tidy and ordered. Not having space to display stuff sucks!

Been doing some work at home recently. The cube has been removed, (Wii on the way) and we bought a cabinet for the lounge. The plan being that all games/DVD etc are stored away, but in an easy to reach spot, which takes the clutter away & more importantly stops the half vikings breaking DVDs....

So we have the cleaned up TV area. In with a PS3, out with a cube & space made for the Wii:

Then we have the new cabinet. AV stuff in the middle, glasse/plates on all the posh stuff we hardly use in the side doors

Here's how I have used the draws, just the right size for DVD cases.

& now onto my project! The upstairs spare room has been used a study/games room but now I have the green light to really go to town and make it a play room for small (and large!) kids.

I'm sketching out ideas, and think I will go for a wall mounted 32inc TV, which can be put out of the way. I have a 720P projector for the roof, and then we are going PINK for the room and white furniture. Plus a leather "Joey" chair for daddy to read bed time stories, and then relax with a beer and some xbox on an evening.

The room is a state now, but I'll post updates as I get the room done.
