Neil after a chat with the hi-fi guy he suspects there may be something wrong as Im able to max the volume on my amp when its in DVD mode, the Aux input is very muffled also. I may miss out on the pure clout I had with the biamped power-amp, but clarity and sound performance should be far better. I like those speakers, the problem I have there is that unless I buy more floorstanders I doubt they will be able to replicate the bass response Ive typically got with my existing ones (ask Brats and Papercut, they will testify that they literally shake my flat). Ill recheck the wiring and give it a good listen, if Im still not happy Ill take it back to the shop for them to check out for faults.

Marcus, if you can max out the volume on your Arcam amp then something is definately wrong - generally speaking it should be very loud when the volume dial is set to the 9 or 10 o' clock position.
As for improved clarity without a power amp, the opposite is usually true.
By using a power amp and pre amp in seperately housed components sound quality and clarity is almost always improved because circuits that can potentially interfere with music signals are isolated from one another.
There are very few benefits (besides cost) from using an integrated amp.

Is that glass av rack an alphason?
Pikmin, I plan on purchasing a Arcam power amp and bi-amping the low and high frequencies, which is what I did when I had the Alpha 9s.
I havent looked at the pre-amp/power-amp option A because the price seemed considerable (over ?5500 for a pre-poweramp combo), and B as I dont know enough about it or the benefits. And C because its so damn expensive!

I've got some QED cabling. I can't remember what kind though. I think it was about ?20 per m. Silver rings a bell though.
Problem is, one of the bananna plugs has just come off because of a loose connection. :x

007 ditch the banana plugs. Just feed the cable end through the posts and screw the top down. Also, if the cable is old, snip the end and strip back a bit of plastic to get some shiny new cable for a better connection (always buy cable a little long so you can do this every couple of years until you get bored and want to buy some new cable).

I'm really not sure which QED cabling i've got. It's bloody thick though. I use the banana plugs because they're just a bit easier, as the cabling is really thick. I'll definately do this on the centre speaker though, now that the banana plug is pretty fuxored.

God damn you guys are tempting me into getting a decent set up! I should be moving soon and i am very tempted to start building a proper surround sound system with a brand spanking new TV. Have'nt done any proper research though so im not really clued up on whats needed and whats decent, which is good in a way as its stopping me from splashing all the cash. Actually the same thing is happening with me buying a PC - dont really know much about them so have refrained from buying myself one so far.
The temptation for a load of shiny new kit is getting strong though...
