Marmite, what do you have at the minute? A nice AV system with surround sound, big(ish) TV, and you're well away. You can always upgrade later on.

I started with a ?300 Amp / Surround sound set up. Upgraded the speakers, then the amp, then DVD player and then a couple of TVs.

Takes a while, but you get there in the end. Only upgrade for me is a DVD player now.

Ive got a nice enough Sony 21" 4:3 TV, a Panasonic DVD Recorder, and all 3 consoles plus a Dreamcast. I have an Aiwa stereo system that i bought when i started uni but its not hooked into anything else as its just an all in one jobby. Never really looked into amps and the like so im a bit ignorant as to whats needed and how it is all hooked up. Basically, i think i would need a lot of stuff!

Well, what's your budget? And what would you like to have? Big TV? Nice surround sound system?

Once you've got them hooked up to 5.1, 7.1, PL2, the games sound completely amazing. So much different to when they're not.

I'd go for a middle range amp and speakers boss to give you that awesome sound.

Think i will wait to see where i end up moving too, then i might give myself a budget and a treat. I dont mind going a bit mad with speakers, amps, CD players or whatever, its just the telly bit that is the big dilemma - i want a widescreen bad boy but dont fancy shelling out over 2k on a decent Panny one. I might wait to see how much space i will end up with when i move and then buy myself a decent CRT jobby.

This is probably a couple of pages OT. If there's going to be many more recommendation style posts, can you start a thread in the Music Movies TV forum? Thanks

              Back on topic.

My AV/Gaming setup is nothing to shout about but I thought a few people might be interested in seeing this. Anyone else got a good collection of a series? Every Megaman perhaps?

Bad timing really, I am currently moving so all my consoles and games are packed away. I only own a GC, PS1, an N64 and a SNES but there are quite a few rare or interesting games I own.

Hopefully should have photos up soon but they won't compete with some other members' setups.

When recently buying a new telly my biggest dillema was whether to go widescreen or stick with traditional 4:3. Considering most games these days are still 4:3 format and 99.9% of older generation games are non-widescreen I ordered a lovely Sony KV21CL10U. It only has one RGB scart and one s-video scart as to be expected- but I've hooked that socket up to a JoyTech RGB switching box. Now I've got a modded SNES, modded PSone, a PAL GameCube and of course my DVD home cinema set-up hooked up to it. The TV displays games fantastically well and is much better than my old curved screen Thompson.

Even though I do watch a few DVDs that are of course shot in widescreen I can live with loosing a little screen estate with black bars. I have much more games than films and after suffering as a PAL gamer over the years, playing imported classics in 60hz fullscreen is a real treat.

I see your new Sony sits nicely on the famous Ikea TV bench, is it the 28" or 32"?
I have that TV in 32" but from my rough measurements in store I didn't think it would fit.
Quite like the look of that, whats it like for playing games as it looks quite low down? How much did it set you back?

If my parents will lend me their shiny camera I'll try and post some pics too.

                          If you're asking me:

It was 7000 danish kroner, which is about ?610. It came with the stand, and it would have been more expensive without it As far as I can understand from friends talking about the TV, it's an older model which has dropped significantly in price. It used to be like ?1400 or something.

It's not too low, because I'm only watching it from my bed or my armchair, and the armchair is pretty low as well. No problems there. It's good for games in any situation, but you'll have to get used to it exposing all the minor faults in 2d-graphics in games such as La Pucelle Tactics and Xenogears. Neo Geo games look ace, though. And playing NBA Inside Drive 2004 in 16:9 is really funning ace as well
