Nice haul dude. I see you caved and went for a black amp in the end then

On the sub front I did have 5 small satellites and a sub but living in a flat I just couldn't really use it (especially as it was downward firing!) and the sats just weren't good enough on their own. The speakers I have now are so much better and chuck out stupid amounts of bass anyway to the point where I have the amp bass level set to -10 most of the time...

I think if/when I ever can afford a house then I'll have a sub, as it does add something to films but for me at least it isn't essential - to be honest I would much prefer a very decent centre so I can bloody well hear people over the music/sound fx!

Only because the three shops I went to had sold out of the brushed silver ones and were awaiting stock. Patience has never been one of my character traits...........

well you could always get the spray paint out...

Nice PJ too, you got the screen yet? Saw Jamies thread the other day and seem to remember it being the GT720, was thinking of getting the GT750 for 3D myself...

hmmm - strange comments about the subwoofer

I wouldnt do without mine (Monitor audio 360HD). The quality of low fequency bass cant be replicated through a set of floor standers (even through my MA RX6 silvers). There is nothing more satisfying when the low frequency bass blends (not booms) with a movie soundtrack. Totally enriches the listening experience.

I think with subs you often don't realise what you're missing until you turn it on. I can happily watch a film without mine on, but it adds a whole new depth when it is on.

You often find subs are so badly setup though, particularly if people have small speakers. They are then used to try and fill the frequencies the satellites can't produce, but in reality you tend to get a huge, boomy, overpowering bass whereas what they're really lacking is low to middle frequences.

I have my sub volume low so it adds to the soundscape, rather than dominating it.

I primarily use my speakers for music, hence the comment.

As I said, purely a personal preference thing where i'm concerned. Used to have one set up (Still in the cupboard in my Scottish place), but don't feel the need for it with either my old or new set up. Different strokes for different folks.

It is different with music if you have a poor sub. You need to get the bass tight and controlled.

I went many years without a sub, and enjoyed my home setup during that time immensely

All I know is I just watched my first film with what I think are nearly my perfect settings, maybe just a wee bit of tweaking left. It was bloody immense! Real cinema in the home stuff, projecting an image just over 3m wide. Haven't bought a screen yet and not sure i'm going to bother, i've read so many conflicting reports on what type to buy. On to the wall seems to be working out really well, really, REALLY pleased.

And gaming on a 140" (diagonal) screen is pretty sweet!

So after many attempts at getting the furniture in a suitable viewing space, i've ended up with this. Such a pain having a relatively small, odd shaped room and loads of stuff.......

Sofa which faces the projection wall, projector sat at the bottom corner of the sofa throws an image that absolutely fills the opposite space. Really impressive little thing really. Still need to rehang all my pictures, the AC/DC one not being centred on the sofa irks me!

Opposite wall that the projector image goes to. Onkyo amp and PS3 are in the little black unit, not clear in the pic.

Chair in the pic above points toward the plasma, or if I watch it from the sofa i'm usually sprawled out. Arcade sticks and stuff in the unit below.

                      What projector are you running?

It's an Optoma DW531ST, which is seemingly now renamed the GT720.

I like how you've just shove the telly in a corner. Any use for it anymore?

It's still set up in a way that's comfortable to watch from the sofa and chair, and i'm still watching all my normal TV on it. Everything else is set up so that big screen movies and gaming are as immersive as I can manage in the room.
