Well it doesn't boot when I put my pandora battery in!

Seems fine other than that, I'm going to update the usual way to see if that helps.

Still saying battery needs to be at least 78%. I'll leave it charging.

The update doesn't work for me. Asks if I want to download 390.PBP from the internet, I say yes, select my network then I get a loud BOP noise from the PSP and it switches off. Try it again, and same thing. Battery fully charged here.

        That doesn't sound good!!

Looking at the readme it does seem to be different to the other updates:

        3.90 M33
        --------

        Requeriments:

        - Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 or higher.

        Instructions

        - Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
        - Get the 3.80 sony update from somewhere, and put it in same folder, with name "390.PBP".
Alternatively, you can let the installer to download for you via wifi.
        - Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.

        Changes:

        - 3.80 -> 3.90
        - March33 NO UMD: fixed (yet another) bug related with exiting with home. (infinite semaphore wait)

        Changes in updater:

        - The degeneration check and correction of IDS keys happens too in 3.71 now.
        - Added code to download 3.90 PBP from net via wifi.
Note that his code is not yet 100% stable, it may crash when selecting AP. In that case,
        reinit the installer.
        - L+triangle has been restored as method to bypass battery.
If you already have 390.PBP keep those buttons pressed until you see "Veryfing 390.PBP".
If the 390.PBP is being downloaded bia wifi, press those buttons at the end of download until
        you see the previous sentence.
It seems that you have to press L+triangle at some point.

        EDIT:

It's downloading the 390.PBP OK for me. I've just done what the readme says to do.

worked for me, 150 add on is out for all your homebrew apps http://dark-alex.org/

The updater will not work unless the battery charge is at least at 70%, iirc. L+triangle bypasses this safety.

              It's worked fine for me!

No if I only knew people that used Skype I'd probably be impressed!

Yep it's fine for me. Would have worked on the network update (This downloads the M33 updater, but not the 3.90 until the installation itself starts) except that my battery was too low on charge.

                All done.

                And:

Lol I know that some mates used to use it but I'm not really sure if it's any use to me now as I get loads of free calls on my mobile and landline.

Its a handy feature if youre out of the country, got it on my N95 and used it loads in Japan via wifi points.

So I take it you have a slim psp then Mr Parry?

It's a software hack. All PSPs except the very latest slim models (this new model only came to light a few days ago so they're very new) have the ability to modify the internal software of the battery, and basically someone created a homebrew method to turn a standard battery into one of the service mode ones that Sony uses. If your PSP was bricked and had to be sent in for repair they'd use an official version of the Pandora batteries to revive it, only they'd obviously install the official firmware.

The battery is set up to make the PSP boot an application from the Memory Stick - usually one of the unbricker/downgrader apps - and because the PSP never actually boots normally when using this process they can get around any security enhancements that are added to the firmware to prevent downgrading.

Anyway, 3.90 M33 is working fine here. I actually ordered a slim PSP earlier today (I need to buy something to celebrate the first pay from the new job ) which should be here tomorrow, so the first thing I do will be to install it on there and play around with Skype. I wouldn't expect the firmware to add many new features to the standard PSP now.

I don't know anyone who uses Skype for IM or anything like that, but it's fantastic for calling abroad. When I'm on holiday I take the laptop and can call home through the computer for less than the cost of a local call. If the PSP supported Bluetooth so that I could use the same headset I use on my computer it would be perfect.

Does anybody know how the Go Messenger app works? I know it's not getting a release for a few weeks or so but going into the app now it gives you headings for things like video & audio messaging.

                          EDIT:

Looking at the FAQ it seems to be along the lines of Skype in that it wirelessly connects to the web and you can make free video or voice calls to other people with the software.

It's coming "Early 2008 in PAL regions" and seems to be supplied jointly by Sony & BT.

The older PSPs can use it too.

Can anyone help me out on how to use custom firmware on my PSP? I have checked the psphacks site but i don't really understand what to do. I have a phat PSP imported from japan a few years ago and its running on sony 3.80 firmware.

Still won't download 390. file for me Guess I'm being hated on for having a slim&lite. Will have to do it the manual way.

I have a slim as well mate and didn't have any trouble (Other than the battery not having enough charge, obviously).
