    Bravia or Samsung? Wii ???

    Hi all.
Im about to purchase a lcd.
    Im after a 46"

Now my query lies here in regards to the wii.
I took my wii to a friends place, and he has a bravia x series,40 ".
We hooked it up with the official component cables and it looked quite terrible.
Washed over colors blurry as hell etc.
We toyed with the settings and got it a tiny bit better but not good enough to enjoy.

Can anyone tell me if they have it hooked up to their bravia or a samsung lcd?
As im still undecided as to which LCD i should buy.?

I am however warmer to the idea of a 46" samsung as they are about $1000 cheaper than the bravia.

But i do want to obviously do more than play the wii with it!

480i/p content on televisions whose native resolutions are 1280x720/1366x768/1920x1080 are always going to look fairly awful due to the fact they're upscaled. The bigger the set, the more noticeable it is.

Samsung and Sony use the same screens but different processing. I have used an old Samsung panel from over a year ago. I found Component to be weaker compared to its handling of VGA.

Samsung are actually using better panels than the BRAVIAs now, but it comes at the cost of having a reflective screen.

Samsung sets tend to do worse with low-res content (480/576) but the Sony sets aren't the best either.

With HD, the Samsungs might just have the edge actually with the latest sets, though HD tends to look great on just about anything anyway.

From my experience though, I wouldn't want to buy a Samsung, as I have found them to be unreliable (and there are plenty of reports of Samsung displays failing if you look around) and their customer service was hopeless.

You might want to consider Toshiba if you're wanting an LCD - they aren't as good at viewing angles or black levels, but make up for it with more natural colour reproduction and better handling of low-res content. (probably the best of any LCD I've seen so far)

If it's a choice between Sony/Samsung though, I'd go with the BRAVIA personally.

OK many thanks guys, Ive got 4 days to make my decision.
Pitty Nintendo did not take this into consideration when designing the wii.

Ive got the 46 X Series which is obviously larger than the set you tried it on, and i have to say i have no problem with the picture through my Wii, although its so dull compared to a PS3,s 1080P signal, i struggle after using that, but if i put a nice bright game on like sonic 2 on th VC, the picture is excellant, i had the same choice do i spend a ?1000 less and get a samusung, but the sony is just so stunning if you can afford it theres no doubt buy the X Series.

Yr gonna bloody love it whichever you got!

I fancied the X but went for the W instead as I just couldn't justify the extra 600squid for, imo, minimal pic diff. Both amazing anyway...

I use a Bravia myself. S-Series 26" (I game in a small spare room away from everything else).

The only complaints I would have are the poor viewing angles and headphone quality (something remedied by forming your own sound setup or re-routing the sound elsewhere). Component is certainly swish, and VGA is pixel perfect sharp.

I think the W can do 1920x1080 over VGA too, I don't think the X can.

I've found the viewing angles to be great, though I do have the 32" S, which may differ to the 26" S.

Since I face the screen front on it doesn't affect me much. It's only when the screen is viewed at acute angles that it becomes evident.

If you have the room I'd recommend keeping your CRT for the Wii. It won't look good an an LCD.
