On this sort of subject: I've just been reading an article in PC Format magazine which makes it quite clear how comparatively lousily games run under Vista compared to XP/DX9. But worse than this general problem it says that existing 'future proof' DX10 capable graphics cards are effectively going to be made redundant due to Vista Service Pack 1 which will update it to version DX10.1. If you've spent ?500 on a 8800GTX Ultra I think that news might **** you off somewhat.

As for Vista, well known when it was released with Geforce the drivers where rubbish (ATIs where fine) some games ran up to 50% slower like COD2 on Vista rest around 10%. Nividia have fixed it all now with MS and its been like that for 2months. Their is only a swap file bug for memory left what got fixed last month so yet again another bit of misinformation. I dual boot have done since Vista came out and it was utter dog food for ages so ran all my games on XP (and I have loads). I only ever used COH and Supreme Commander on Vista as SC was better with memory management so faster and COH had DX10 patch (the second one the first patch was so slow it was worthelss). Now since the later Nvidia drivers 2months ago I run all my games on Vista.
For crashing with your card it can be a number of things. Always use drive cleaner to get rid of residue from drivers in safe mode first. Make sure you have the latest port drivers for your motherboard for the slot (ie nvidias force for nvidia chipset or intel inf updates etc..). After that download coolbits and disable fastwrites for the card in control panel as its always been a well know fault and if you have nvidia. Also disable nvidia gpu ex in bios as it interferes with the card and causes instability (lots of bios updates for EVGA etc.. disable it by default).
If theirs owt else shout as been tweaking and building em for 15yrs

Ive never had BSOD with Nvidia with Vista or probs with drivers (running EVGA 8800GTX 768mb), I always use drivecleaner have done for years.
Only BSOD Ive ever had was with Vista was on purchase was with antivirus (zone alarm) what I had to bin as they cant fix it. Before that Ive never had them even with 95-98-ME-XP as Im carefull how I set my PC up with IRQs etc.. BSOD can be caused by mountains of stuff, I know of 7 anti virus programs what cause it alone.
