    Windows Media Player - FIles?

For some reason, I can be doing something on the PC. Then suddenly this weird Windows Media Player skin will come up, then start playing a film advert in full screen. Where the hell do these come from? And how do I get rid of them?

    Cheers
    Scott

My mate's computer's been running really slowly recently, so I came over to have a look at it and run all the usual spyware programs, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and did a Norton virus scan. I then ran Registry Mechanic. That's been running for about 18 hours straight now, and it keeps finding stuff, it's not hung or anything.

I've never seen any spy/ad/malware scanner run for this long before, is this normal? Or has he got such a serious issue with spyware that he needs to keep it running, for however long it takes?

He doesn't use bittorrent, he does use the filesharer Warez to download music. He doesn't have any pirate software, and he doesn't surf porn (UNBELIEVABLE I know).

He has no idea how the spyware got on his system.

            Any ideas?
            Joe

              Unwanted Dialer

Hi there i was just wondering if anyone here on the ntsc-uk forum can help me I seem to have a very annoying problem and have done everything in my power to get rid of it but it is still here so help!!!!!! I have had an unwanted dialer called globaleaccess for over a month now and ive had enough. I've removed it from the dialer control box several times, i've run spyware and checked the registy on my computer but i cannot seem to get rid of it. It either continues to install itself or asks me to download the .exe for it to dial up the premium rate service. Here is the homepage enter at your own risk.

              [no -- NJM].

Is there any other special software that will allow you to delete or disable such a dialer? Is there are special software tools that allow you to revert your internet explorer back to normal or uninstall completely? Since i have also had a number of pop ups and adverts appear as well sometimes that i want to remove but have had no success.

Has anyone else had such problems? Help or links will be MUCH appreciated!

              thanks

Run Ad-Aware, Registry Mechanic, Spybot: Search and Destroy and CWShredder, then use Mozilla Firefox instead of Microsoft IE.

my pc has gone insane. It's running really really slow, I downloaded adware (its running so slow downloading at 2-3 k/s) and it didnt help. I keep getting logged in and out of msn, and when I try to connect to counter strike it says `unable to connect tried 4 times` or something like that. It's a new pc really, got it at christmas and has been kept porn free. So, I'm not sure whats happened, i've tried downloading spy bot, but every link i click on says page cannot be displayed, wether or not this is to do with problem on my computer i'm not sure. If someone could email spy bot to me, or some other program that might help i'd appreciate it, as I can't download them. Thanks.

It sounds like spyware blocking you from getting spybot.

                      Try one of these: http://www.filemirrors.com/search.sr...ot&action=Find

Have you kept windows updated? Does it have service pack 2(right click on "My Computer" and go to properties to check)? Did you ditch internet explorer yet? You should use opera or firefox. Much safer and has more handy features.

                            About blank mini rant

                            Help urgently needed.

Does anyone have the contact details for anyone associated with the creation and propagation of the 'about blank' homepage syndrome, and all associated spyware removal pop-ups?

I urgently require said information to test my hypothesis that it is indeed possible to shove so much pc equipment up a person's arse that you can use their mouth as a disc drive.

Have you checked your internet options to see that your homepage isn't set as blank there?

After that, look through your process list in Task Manager until you find it and stop it. Then, use Highjack This to kill it dead.

Then get a decent Firewall. Zonealarm will suffice.

Come again? Is there some sort of spyware out there associated with having good old "about:blank" as your homepage? All my browsers are set up that way, as I don't want to wait while a 'home' page downloads before I start browsing.
