Thought this would be of interest to people on here.

Go to Richer Sounds (or similar - but they seem to have good stock) and ask for a Toshiba BDX-1200.

Get it home, unbox it, grab a USB stick, install this firmware and follow these instructions:

And you have a multiregion DVD player and region-switchable BD player for a great price!

Will this only work with the 1200? I'm trying to shift a 3200 but might be tempted to keep it if the same can be done. I somehow doubt it though...

Good info cheers - how quick is the player to boot discs; my ageing Sony 350 seems to take roast dinner amounts of time to load.

I timed it, 22 seconds to load a Java disc. But it will vary. It's fast.

Supposedly it does, but you'll need to search the web and see if anyone has uploaded the Australian firmware for that player.

Ah this sounds wicked pity it doesn't play divx files.

Is there a model with divx playback that you can do the same update on?

Thanks, had a look on AVF and indeed there is a thread with a link to the 3200 firmware. Installed now but got nothing to test it with annoyingly. Amazingly simple though and painless to switch regions, looks like you don't even need to reboot the player!

My local RS have sold out - by the CurrysDigital near me has the BDX-1250 for ?70 - is this the same firmware, or completly different?

The firmware won't work on the updated model - the 1200 is available at Amazon for ?70 though.

This thread on AVF suggests you can't unfortunately, looks like that is the new model and probably why the 1200 is going cheap now.
They are ?75 in Argos if you have one near though. I know thats a lot more than RS but might be good if you're desperate!

Thought I'd ask in here, sounds like a somewhat related topic.

Basically what I've done, is downloaded the US firmware for my Toshiba BDX1100 without realizing it was the US firmware (handily, there was no indication which region the download was for), updated it and now I'm stuck with a region A blu-ray player which won't play any of my disks.

Any idea if it's possible to revert back to the original firmware?

Edit: scratch that, just downloaded the V50 from the UK site and it's fixed. Sadly I'm now back to the crappy firmware which includes intrusive pop ups of menus on all 20th century fox disks. ****ing toshiba!

By chance, my parents happen to have a BDX1200 so I tested this firmware out - works a charm, and so simple to install and use. My father is chuffed because he's a bit of a collector, and is not adverse to importing things if they are better image quality, have more extras etc.

Must echo those thoughts. So easy to modify even a child could do it! No more annoying pop up menu during 20th Century Fox disks either. Hooray!

In a slightly unrelated note, where do people import their US DVDs and Blu-rays?
