Those cards eat power at about twice the rate compared to the 960 though and hotter often means noisier.

Quite sold on that 960 Marty - reviews say the fan is off at idle and even in light gaming

Before I get too excited, I thought my monitor had HDMI, but it has displayport 1.2a and dvi. So.... does this matter? And which one should I use with a new gfx card?

That 960 supports both of those. Display Port is a replacement for DVI and VGA (although I think it can be used carry audio data). Doesn't really make a difference at 1080P.

The GTX750ti is quite a compact card (edit actually that one you've linked looks chunky too - my 750ti had a single fan), looks like that 960 is as chunky as my 970 - make sure you've got the space in your machine to fit it, width and length.

Ok good tips. Will check for size but looks like loads of space in there.
Thanks everyone

Help, I bought one of these: http://uk.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-96...-specification

My PSU has 2 PCI-E female 8pin sockets on it. <<ignore any autoskimlinks in this post!!
The gfx card has the same PCI-E female 8pin socket.

The gfx card said it comes with 1x8pin power cable, but it's a short thing about 3" long with an 8pin male at one end and a 6pin female at the other.

So, I can plug the 8pin end of that cable into either my PSU or the card, but not do anything with the other end....
It seems that what I really need is an 8pin to 8pin male cable.....

Help!!! Is this suitable??? CLICK. Or is there something else I should be getting? Bah. PC gaming jumping through hoops strikes again.

edit: I also have two spare 6 pin sata female sockets on the PSU.

Brad sorry to tag, I've ordered that 8 to 6+2 male to male for delivery tomorrow, but if it's the wrong thing I could cancel if I'm quick enough.

Yep! That's what you need.
charlesr Guess you have a modular PSU. Are you sure it didn't come with any PCI-E cables?

Yeah, it's semi modular. I searched the house and loft earlier but no sign of PCI-E cables. Must have ditched them wondering what they were lol.... What a div.

I just assumed that if something says it comes with a 1x8pin cable, it would be something useful...

Lol. Upload a pic of the cable; I'm curious!
I doubt it helps but that card only actually needs 6 of those 8 pins unless you overclock it.

Ok so that's designed to attach to a regular six pin, non-modular PCI-E (or a 6 pin cable connected to a modular one) with the 8 pin end plugged into the card.

just be careful i made the mistake that my monitor had a display port but the graphics card i got only had a mini displayport so i had to get a cable for that
