I think another major benefit the FM has over a CRT (which no one else seems to be doing), is that it takes 720p signals and cleanly upscales them to 1080p with scanlines - i was play a load of 360 shooters last night on a 27" Rotated screen and it was image quality was simply stunning (pics tonight). All the cave shooters looked jaw dropping, even the non HD remakes like mushi pork and ketsui. The scanlines really give that arcade CRT look and feel (some thing a straight console/TV upscale to 1080p cant do). It also acts as an HDMI pass through/splitter too, so you can add two HDMI devices directly into it and have a clean 720p/1080p signal if desired instead.

I have 1st gen Jpn Ps3 that is Backwards compatible, so it might be interesting to see how it takes ps1/2 games and outputs them from an HDMI source to 720p/1080p.

The FM really is a tweakers golden nugget!

Bah, just tried with my camera and got a bunch of sunlight reflection. Will have to do it later...

Some great images from both sides of the fence. For me, I can't help but feel the nail was hit very much on the head some pages back though, when the screen size issue came up - even when CRT was the norm I remember how much more I was getting out of my games when I moved from a 14" to a 21", and then later again to a 28" WS set. I play the majority of my games on an 84" screen now, and the Framemeister does a stunning job with everything I've put through it. Heck, it's almost been worth it for just allowing me to feed in a bunch of sources and get them all pumped out via one HDMI output. I'd still like a BVM some day, but they are not exactly a great match for the compact nature of London flats (says he with a 29" CRT cab in the corner of his living room).

But, I do now want an AV Famicom / NES RGB setup. This forum is an awful influence.

i think i'll pick up a BVM at some point too - its probably the best way to get a direct comparison of quality.

We need HiVe to take photos of the Framemeister in action, as he has a top quality camera and knows how to take pics really well.. The Framemeister, on a good LCD and set up right, really does deliver a CRT/PVM quality image when you see it in person.

I couldn't take great images, and nor could TA, despite some of his looking reasonable. I think only a top quality cam can properly capture how screens look.

If I wanted promotional images for the Framemeister, I'd get someone like HiVe to take them. Yakumo did a good job with his images, but even those aren't 100% representative of the true quality possible.

Knowing how to use a camera is far more powerful than having a "top quality" one.

                    ^^^ This

I've got a perfectly serviceable Nikon D40 which if used properly (i.e. not by me) can turn out perfectly fine pictures & still hold it's own

I have for years thought about trying to learn to use it properly by taking classes & the such but have never got round to it.

I do feel TA's pics don't do these justice, they are dark & very hit & miss & as @nakamura said I wouldn't have bought one based on them alone.

I'd actually like to see someone tackle something from like an Amiga to see how that would look as they had some good stuff on there.

I think there's enough evidence to say that the FM is a very very nice bit of kit - something that has been known for a while!

I'm certainly thinking of getting one. Part of what's kept me out of retro is not having the room for a CRT and not liking how the Saturn looks through most LCDs.

Yep no doubt the Framemeister is a good piece of kit. It just makes me laugh when it's championed by someone and then a load of poor images are provided with excuses.

I use a camera phone on my CRT shots and know nothing about photography but taking a decent pic isn't hard.

No offence Nakamura - remember, I like you and don't think you mean to offend - but taking a decent photograph of a TV can be very difficult, depending on the camera, model of TV, lighting conditions...

If it is then wouldn't it make more sense to not post images until you have captured decent ones?

Does anyone from the Framemeister group have a neo-geo? I'd love to see some windjammers shots. I love that game!
