Would help if I said the display lol. Those two are off a Sony PVM 14m2e. I also own a 20m4e and a 20" JVC BM-H2000pn-k

I'm willing to be convinced by the framemeister (I'm not 100% yet) but I just think I'm happier with a crt. It just feels, you know, right?

There are many ****ty CRT screens with RGB input. Anyway, as you can guess I'm a Framemister user since I sell them. They are excellence for bringing the CRT look home. The only people who have words against them are those who have never used one in real life. Sure a Super high quality CRT would be excellent but I'd take a 50 inch flat screen with Framemister over a 26 inch (that was big with max probably at 32 inch) CRT any day. So much easier to move, less space and a much bigger gaming experience. I never understood why people say a small screen is perfect for retro gaming. I hated playing on the portable TV as a kid.
          Amen. Why I bought one.

              Stunning pics HiVe.

I've owned a bunch of XRGB units (and they're amazing pieces of kit) but nothing compares to a CRT.

It's quite a small unit, but that means also that at 14" the picture isn't large either. Has a decent array of standard geometry hardware Controls, tho needs a scart adaptor as has a proprietary rgb connector. Pc engine was a bitch to capture so pardon the poor camera work.
Those shots bring back good memories of using that monitor as a kid. I used it with my Amiga and then consoles, before I got a Sony Trinitron. 14" was fine for me back then, as I liked sitting really close to the screen. These days I game from my sofa, so a Framemeister is a must.

Yeah, there were lots of terrible CRTs. Some had a soft, blurry image, even using RGB scart. I'm not an expert on CRTs, but in my experience, '90s Sony Trinitrons were excellent. If I remember correctly, JVC & Panasonic also made nice CRTs.

And also, how a scart cable is constructed plays a part in the picture quality. I had one cable that gave a softer image than another cable that was sold as being the best SNES scart cable - and it was much better. Some people were looking for a top quality image back then, and could get it if they did their home work.

It upscales the image better than the LCD screen can, and with the 'sync stripper' built into the scart to Framemeister cable, it removes noise. Then you can turn on scanlines, which look really good compared to the terrible scanline effect you get with emulators. The resulting image can look very much like a good CRT. It really is a great device for people who are using an LCD screen.

Was just browsing the forum and come across this thread. As a bit of a CRT nut I thought I could contribute with some shots of my pvm. Snes Mini with rgb mod, and AV fami with nesrgb

That really is SNES picture quality taken to the max. You can't get better. I'd say a Framemeister set up right and using a good cable delivers a similar image, but a little bit less perfect. A SNES mini with RGB mod is the sharpest version of the machine - and a PVM delivers the best CRT picture quality. You have made SNES fans very jealous.

As much as this a sort of battle between the Framemeister and CRT, I have to say that both have there good and bad points, so ideally, I think retro enthusiasts would choose to have both. A CRT offers the genuine retro experience. With a good CRT, you do get an image quality that makes really old consoles look attractive. The Framemeister, when it's set up right and using a decent cable, does make really old consoles look like they're running on a CRT. I was using it with my SNES all afternoon yesterday, playing all sorts of games, and I felt like I was looking at a 42" Sony Trinitron. The Framemeister can do wonders.

You've really convinced me that a PVM can look awesome with retro machines. If the Framemeister image is 8/10, the PVM is 10/10. You couldn't want or expect better than that.

It's a shame the Framemeister is ?200, as it puts a lot of people off. But it really is worth saving up for one, if you really want your LCD screen to look similar to a CRT. As much as I will continue to use LCD, I might buy a PVM because they're a really cool piece of kit to have.

I'm a bit confused how the SNES mini above is the sharpest image you can get from a SNES yet the ones I posted compared to my US SNES were better because of TV.
