It's hardly a one time use thing though yeah it costs a lot but you pay for what you get, it can be used on any tv and also be upgraded to add new settings & features. CRTs will eventually crap out as the tubes fail. Least when my plasma goes i can just use the framemeister on the next tv i get for the same awesome results.

Ummm, but you're still having to buy another TV?

Can someone with PCE Soldier Blade show me what it looks like running through one of these things in comparison to mine on a CRT please? (Real hardware only)

Yeah but with a scaler you can get the same decent image on any new tv. With a crt you have to hope that the one you get to replace your broken one will deal with RGB ok it's a total potluck.

Not all sets are the same, then you have to hope that none of the screen is cut off or that you can actualy adjust it properly & get access to the service menu. Not a problem with a scaler

Slightly devils advocate but the Framemeister's capacitors will probably cap out in some annoyingly soon timeframe, too.

I think a crt will go long before the framemeister does. Although i can easily replace them if they do, probably speedy can do the same with a crt as well as he's gifted with a soldering iron so it would be a draw hehe.

How does it output PS2 games like our lovely Ridge Racer V?

Today I was playing Super Adventure Island on the SNES through my Framemeister and the image was immaculate. With scanlines enabled it reminds me of my Sony Trinitron, but on a huge LCD screen. It's a great game to test the SNES with, as the graphics are really bold, vibrant and colourful.

I tried taking some good photos, but my camera just couldn't capture the quality of the image properly, so it would be a waste of time posting the images. But I did look really close up at the image and inspected it, and it was mint. The Framemeister really is excellent using RGB.

I like the curvature of a CRT myself - though I know some people don't. I was sat on my floor cross legged playing Choh Makaimura last night... Image looked great obviously and I kinda chortled to myself as I kept dying over and over on silly mistakes - smashing the reset button of my Super Famicom each time I did.

Much like PC gaming, I never game from a distance and sitting on the floor in front of a CRT is an integral part of the nostalgia thing, along with screen curvature and older games machines.

Perhaps I'm being a bit romantic, but scalers to me have no soul - CRTs are special.
I really appreciate the unique ambience of the image a CRT delivers. You can't replicate that glow and warmth using an LCD - even with a Framemeister. I used CRT screens up until 2008, so I have lots of nostalgia for the technology. Whenever I go back to CRTs, I always appreciate their qualities.

The perfect CRT screen, for me, would be a 4:3 29" Sony Trinitron FST. That's what I would buy if I had the space for a big CRT. I probably will buy one again, as it's always nice to have CRT as an option, and in the near future, most of them will be gone or broken down.

I used to sit quite close to my CRT screens, but with huge LCDs, I can sit quite far back. The Framemeister scales the image so well, that even on a screen bigger than 40" the image from really old machines like the Mega Drive & SNES looks good.

I've used a PC Engine, SNES and Mega Drive through the Framemeister - and with scanlines enabled, the shooters I've played look just like the image you posted. It's great being able to play really old machines on a huge LCD and the image looks similar to a CRT, but with some added benefits.

But as much as I think the Framemeister is a really cool device, I still think it's also worth having a good CRT, as there are qualities to that tech that give you a proper retro experience with really old consoles.

That Metal Slug image doesn't look right at all to my eyes. (Or the blazing Star) Final Fight title screen looks good though.
