Getting the auto focus right with no natural light is a nightmare - my camera sometimes over (or under saturates) believe me they look mint. Will retake tomorrow!

The shots look pretty good. But have you tried setting the Xbox to 480P and then using the Framemeister to upscale to 720p. I say that because I don't think the Framemeister likes running in 1080p(well.. that's what my eyes tell me when I put it in that res) and really old retro games scale better at 720.

I have a modded Xbox, so I'll set it up with my Framemeister and see what I think. Your shots certainly look nice. And people have to remember that you're using a camera, so that will soften the look of the image.

          240 isn't an integer of 1080 - but is of 720 - that's why it scales better.

Here's a few real deal shots. PC engine and Megadrive into a Philips CM88 MKII. Cheap bit of kit that can be had cheaply. It's quite a small unit, but that means also that at 14" the picture isn't large either. Has a decent array of standard geometry hardware Controls, tho needs a scart adaptor as has a proprietary rgb connector. Pc engine was a bitch to capture so pardon the poor camera work.

I have tried 480p to 720p scaling with the FM and it looks no where near as good as 720p to 1080p (with scanlines). The 360 looks amazing scaled this way with games like Ketsui/akai katana etc using hdmi scaling (pics tomorrow). I use an old FIrmware on my FM so 480p to 720p gives me slightly chunky scanlines which are non adjustable, but i'd be keen to see your results. I'll pop up some wii shots soon.

Your right about getting it right with the camera though! Remember all those last xbox photos are roms internally upscaled to 720p, then further upscaled to 1080p, then processed with an analogue to digital conversion, then captured with a hand camera in poor lighting. All things considered, the results are rather spectacular and the games play as good as they look. I think thats why i'm so impressed with it.

Some very nice shots there. I think 14" is a perfect retro tv size, although i use 20-27" myself. I wouldnt go back to gaming on larger sets now. There is just too much of a hit on quality, when sitting far away.

14" is way too small. Was back then and is even more so now. I grew up with RGB since 1988 and I can tell you just because it's a CRT with RGB doesn't mean the image will be great. There are many ****ty CRT screens with RGB input. Anyway, as you can guess I'm a Framemister user since I sell them. They are excellence for bringing the CRT look home. The only people who have words against them are those who have never used one in real life. Sure a Super high quality CRT would be excellent but I'd take a 50 inch flat screen with Framemister over a 26 inch (that was big with max probably at 32 inch) CRT any day. So much easier to move, less space and a much bigger gaming experience. I never understood why people say a small screen is perfect for retro gaming. I hated playing on the portable TV as a kid.

But then the TV scales to 1080? So the TV scales better. Seems odd

So for the uninitiated - the Framemeister is an all-in-one box that up scales old analogue devices (like consoles) a bit like the scanline tools that some emulators have?

i used to swear by larger sets, but i have gone the complete opposite now. (from a 55VT65 for gaming to 27" monitors). Personal preference, but i think you lose so much fine detail sitting 8-10 FT away from a TV. The image quality of my 14" Trintron is great and was much more pleasing than its 29" bigger brother i had. I think as a kid, we all wanted bigger TV's!

I've never gone above 32'' for any TV. Too big just looks pants.
Nice shots on the last page. It's a lot easier taking pics of LCD sets than CRT though!

                            Alright all,

Was just browsing the forum and come across this thread. As a bit of a CRT nut I thought I could contribute with some shots of my pvm. Snes Mini with rgb mod, and AV fami with nesrgb

Screen size really depends on viewing distance, sure framemeister suits living room big screens but sitting 2 feet away from a small tube is in the zone.

Nice shots above HiVe, what display are you using?
