      It's already being discussed here.

Sorry if this has been covered (I did read the FAQ but didn't find the answer).

I have a Hong Kong PS3, what region of PS2 games does it play? Will it play Jap/US?

          Japanese, not US.

Cheers. Do any japanese games contain English? I was thinking of importing something like god of war 2. Obviously FF would be a no-no as it would be all Japanese and impossible to follow.

Actually, the Japanese version of Final Fantasy X International (the International version, specifically) has an English text option, and has English voices anyway.

The Asian (not Japanese) release of Resident Evil 4 is also fully English, and works on Japanese/Asian region systems.

Excellent, thank you. I'm a bit confused about the regions Asian/Japanese. These are two distinct regions and my PS3 will play both?

They are the same region as far as region coding (of PS1/2 games) goes, but you tend to find a lot of Asian releases are actually in English (or at the very release, are Japanese with and English guide booklet). It's worth researching Asian releases and finding out what language they are, as you may be lucky and find they are in English.

Japanese releases are rarely English, FFX International is an exception.

(Sometimes there are even separate releases for China, Korea etc, but this is rare, and it's still the same region coding).

Thanks for the info, it's really helpful. I don't suppose there is a jap/asian ps2 import recommendations thread around?

We should have an english language guide to jap games listing all games that are playable/english

Just to advise that Playstation Store PSX games do not seem to work on PSP's with custom firmware (I'm using the latest DA 3.40oe-a).

The games transfer over ok but you get an error message when you try to play them on the PSP.

I just hooked up my US PS3 which I brought home with me from my recent trip over there. Bought a 10A power lead when I got home, no melting so far. Downloading the new firmware as we ... type. In 15 minutes it has downloaded - 5 %. Going to be waiting a while then.

Have you double checked you have the kernel set to 3.40 and not 1.50?

I suspected that might have been the problem but got the same thing with both the 1.50 & 3.40 kernel.

Oddly it does seem to start booting as it brings up the warning blurb about using your PSP in bright conditions etc. After that though it just spits out the message 'the game could not be started (CA000006)'.

Can't really think of any other settings that would be mucking things up...

Can someone help me optimise my Jap 60 GB PS3 running on the wireless, please?

I was downloading some files and it took forever on my wireless but when I slapped the network cable in it was downloading stuff soooo much faster...
