If I'm brutally honest, I've thought of packing it in as well since there are so many other things I want to play as well (especially on Xbox Live) and I'm starting to wonder whether the rewards are worth the effort they require.

But then I remembered how long I've been out of the loop for, so I'm definately going to try to get back in once I find the time. If it doesn't happen, then I know I've had a lot of fun times with FFXI to make it all worthwhile.

Try and play it on and off for a bit aegen. Maybe you'll find some way to fit it around what you're doing - it ain't all about getting as far as you can straight away, after all. Could try taking things a little slowere, even though FFXI is, admittedly, hardly something that you can dip in and out of in less than an hour. It is all about 'teh all-nite-sesh'

Whatever you do Aegen, please don't go for option 4, I'd suggest selling off all your equipment then sellnig the gil for real life cash, if that's what you want. Seraph does not need a high level dark that has no clue how the game works.. also it would defile the name Aegen, I assume that would the last thing you want.

I'm starting to get into the partying lifestyle (in a strictly FFXI sense)... can be great, but as I discovered last night it can also be very bad. Over the course of about 3 hours last night I must have had every freak that was online at the time pass through my party.

1st example, a level 15 warrior who acted like a lvl 5 warrior, was pulling for us but did this by standing in front of the group and running back and forth saying 'there's nothing here!'. He also frequently exploded on members of the party if they attacked something he didn't approve of, I had to keep telling to calm down as he kept typing torrents of abuse.

Next was the complete opposite, a level 49 Ninja who was levelling up his BLM... so much arrogance it was unreal. Moaning all the time - I was restoring MP, he said 'we spend more time talking than fighting' so I said 'well go attack, I'll rest up for the first half of the battle and then join in when I have more MP'... his response, 'you have a lot to learn noob'... excuse me??? He didn't attack anything eiither, just sat there complaining about it. He eventually left our party without saying a word. Just disbanded and ran off.

Thirdly, we were trying to find a member that lasted longer than 2 minutes, and recruited a Tarutaru WHM. Usual stuff welcoming him to the party (and I mean nothing more elaborate than hello and a bow) to which he responds with "Eh I don't party with people who make fun of Tarus" and left the party!

                  Weirdos.

But I just used Perfect Dodge, your damage is nullified!

Some people are way too fussy on the game, a while ago we had a PLD leave our party because thier HP went into Orange, they said it should not get to Orange at all and left the party.

Tell me about it, i'm in qufim for the 5th time now (which means I just left dunes) And I've mixed feelings at the moment.

With the right guidance even a party that should not work at all can be good. It's all in your attitude in the first couple minutes, when deciding battle tactics.

Was in a party yesterday on qufim: PLD/PLD(<me)/WHM/BLM/BLM/WAR, which got me more Exp quicker than the party after, which was a more traditional WHM/PLD(<me again)/WAR/MNK/WAR/SAM.

A good WHM can work with any party (as long as they are willing to try) and displaying a non-newb, non-arrogant attitude in the opening moments of party-forming, tactics discussion can warm a party to you so that you can give them tips later that don't make them feel bad about themselves and still don't make you look arrogant / know-it-all.

In the first party for example, the other PLD was pulling (he was higher lv than me and was the only one with ranged weaponry) the whm cast Dia, both BLMs cast Bio - this doesn't help on clippers, so I sent the WHM a tell asking him to wait with Dia until the BLMs had both cast Bio, then sent one of the BLMs a tell suggesting he use Paralyze over Bio ^^.

Hmm, I'm wary of listening to peoples advice just because they've played a lot longer. When fighting Snippers I was casting Fire, for 50 damage a time on average. This infuriated a WHM in our party who said Fire didn't work, and I should use Aero. When I cast Aero I caused 3 whopping points of damage... so that makes sense. WHM still felt they knew better. I just ignored them and kept doing what was working. This same person told us to stop poisoning the snippers as it was water based, and they resisted it every time. I do actually watch what I'm doing and I could see the poison was successfully hitting more times than not.

Parties that work well are generally ones where everyone is in good humour, that's what I've found. if you're having fun you won't notice if you're waiting 30 seconds longer or whatever.

However with my limited experience I would say I'd prefer a party where everyone concentrated on doing their own job well rather than telling others how to do theirs, as that's what causes all the friction.

Agreed, it really can annoy me when people start being too controlling in a party, sometimes its the way its said, if someone gives me some advice then ok I appreciate it but when someone complains or tells me what I should do, its just too annoying and not worth continuing to party with them.

I prefer to be in a group that wants to enjoy themselves not just out to get exp as fast as possible.

I really dont often find myself in a rush to acheive things in this game, im happy to take my time a bit.
