Ouch. Have spent the last three nights reinstalling FFXI. I lost my credit card earlier this month and knew that sooner or later I would have to install the US POL alongside the JP one, and that FFXI should work with both versions alongside too, so decided on Tuesday to bite the bullet (to get it done so I could have a proper play on Wednesday).
US POL worked ok, but when I installed US FFXI it seemed to overwrite some of the JP version ... when I uninstalled US FFXI the JP version worked again, but the perfectionist in me couldn't leave it like that - I had to find the cause and get it working properly, so that I could finally say the job was done!
So, ever since (overnight, while I get ready for work, when I get home while watching a DVD) I've been installing and copying - saved the folders so I wouldn't have to reupdate everything (which worked quite well), and tonight I've got both versions running alongside each other as far as I can see. The JP FFXI is fine with US FFXI installed, and US FFXI is waiting to download the version updates that have taken place since I uninstalled it.
Its crazy though, when you reinstall this game - you realise it really is a monster of an application!!Comment

Thanks to everyone who came out to help me fight Charybdis. Unfortunately we couldn't take it. Rare had to leave, and about two hours later it spawned. Tobal got the claim (good job btw), I voked and about 10 seconds later I was dead. I had RR up, but died again. Buju kited it for awhile, but soon he and one of his friends died. Tobal and a BLM who showed up to help us were able to warp out. The other party that was there got the claim and defeated it in about 20 minutes. Sorry to waste your time guys.Comment
