Hmm, well some people may well consider my job to be underequipped, however I don't have either the gil or the inventory space to change that situation at the moment - so I hope I am not judged too harshly! I think I have int +9 excluding food.. I have nothing significant to wear on my neck though so I'll see if I can get anything useful before 8pm tonight.

Where to start... Think I will split last night up into bad and good.

Good

-Alliance made it to the spire with minimal trouble.
-Team 1 beat BCNM {Congratulations} /cheer
-Team 1 agreeing to bring Hicory back for second shot at BCNM - respect
-Mushroom Risotto
-Team 2 got BCNM down to 45% ish health

Bad

-Only 5 people in our Team
-Team 1 being wiped out on floor 3 returning to spire
-Team 2 got BCNM down to 45% ish health
-Team 2 being wiped out facing BCNM
-Deleveling to 39

Good Part II

-Getting magic pattern at Ordelle
-Getting RSE Boots
-Regaining level 40
-Buying some cool new level 40 equipment

So where did it go wrong. To be honest we had little hope of sucess with 5 people (especially as we didn't have 5 from the 'ideal' job list) and no WHM. Even so, nothing could prepare me for the feeling of utter helplessness than when the first man went down and I had no MP left. It was then just a matter of (not much) time until we all went down.

It was right at the point when the first 2hr was used that I had to fire off a whole bunch of Cure II & III. My MP was down to <50 and the Yag Drink had just worn off. I decided to use one of the Hi-Ethers... Well, what an unbelievably useless thing that it. It takes an 'age' to use and even when complete, you can't cast spells right away and it only restores 50 MP.

Additionally, you don't appear to be able to activate the Anima by using it on yourself (as had been mentioned - I had macro for /item "Hysteroanima" <me> and it said I couldn't use it on myslef). Mihki had not used his yet (he was 1st) but tried to use mine anyway when things looked bad...

Conclusion

Red Mage is sh1t for these big boss battles < 41. Far from being good at many things, they are poor at everything.

Why?

As proved, the RDM can't do a particulaly good job of healing - especially in the emergency situation (maybe WHM sub would make a difference?). Dispite having plenty of + gear and food, the only enfeebling that landed was with ElemSeal. No point really mentioning the low powered nukes and may as well leave the sword in my Mog House.

This brings up another point. There are a number of (very expensive) items (not to mention gil) that I need from BCNM40's. I fear after this performance that going as RDM/BLM is going to be little or no use and all that will happen is lost orbs and no goodies. Looks like it may be Lizzy / other NM camping to get my gil (need 500k just for the three items I need now - not to mention those WAY expensive Ring / EarRing upgrades)

Still, one more level and I get Refresh Then it's starting on the AF front, going for Rank 5 and leveling SAM and WAR (and maybe WHM).

yeah it did go abit ****ty in the end, i was quite pissed of to die on the 3rd floor we only need one more MR fight to get to you. Also Ces and Mal should be ashamed of themselves, never i have been so disppointed!

Sorry to hear that for the second group Promy didn?t go as planned I?ve seen many LS members putting a lot of effort into it and to hear that only 1 group passed is really disheartening. Hopefully you?ll get it next time.

As for your RDM and BCNM, you will actually be incredibly useful for the Steamed Sprouts BCNM. I?ll put it in spoilers in case anyone doesn?t want to read it:

Steamed Sprouts is a battle against many Mandragoras. Optimum PT is BRD, main healer, BRD healer, and 3 DD (maybe a tank, not really overly important). The DD take out 1 Mandragora at a time, with the BRD responsible for Sleeping all the others. However, when the Mandys wake up he will take a bit of damage whilst he recasts Horde Lullaby. That is why he needs a healer dedicated to looking after him. RDM is ideal for this as if his MP goes low, he can simply Convert. You will be really useful for that BCNM (which everyone seems to do).

Also, I have a BCNM40 orb, level 40 gear (only 1 ring but meh) and in need a gil injection. NIN isn?t the best job for the BCNM in all honesty but I have tanked it before (in much worse gear than I would have this time) so it can be done, and the only attack worth fearing in the battle, I can Blink away with ease. If you?ll have me along, I?d love to take part.

Also, a little LS activity possibility for the weekend. I?m getting incredibly short of inventory and mogsafe space and am trying to find ways to clear out. One thing I have is Selbina Clay for the Stone Monument quest. I only need 1 more to finish it off (Sauromugue Champaign). To get this one, you need to go through Garlaige Citadel Banishing Gate 3. This means we need to go in a group of at least 4 (preferably with 2 Sneak casters). The monument is worth 10k so if anyone wishes to try it, let me know.

Well, at least we learned a few things last night, even if it did not exactly go to plan. I think next time(s) we should just take one party in, less aggro, less hassle, beter communican, and a solid exp party setup can beat the boss, as proven.

As part of the team that went back out and had to come back up to the top, I'd really advise against trying it with one party.

A party of 6 is going to die if you pick up aggro above the 1st floor - we lost it on the 2nd. Wanderer and weeper aggro'd at the same time, I slept the weeper while we fought the wanderer, but once it went down we had nothing left to beat the weeper. With hindsight I should have just cast escape the moment we were attacked and we could have started from the beginning again... but after starting the fight I didn't have enough MP for that.

I think that's the only way a single party *could* make it to the top.

Ah, Talizker the Hi-ethers... it's a shame you had no experience of using them as they really aren't great as an emergency use item.. this was one of the huge challenges of the avatar fights - drink the hi-ether before it kills you! However using mine last night saved the day as I was able to fire off the two nukes that were needed to end the fight.

I'm at level 38 (1000 to 39) and have been drooling over the prospect of BCNM40s for a long time.. think you guys could wait a little longer and let me in on the fun?

No problems Rare - I can help with this. Can do my clay at the same time if possible. Just need to get a bit of a buffer on 40 (currently 12!). Will have to be in the evening for me of course /sigh

Ok so far for a BCNM40 we have

Myself (DD/tank)
Talizker (BRD healer)
Darwock (DD)

I?m hoping Wedgemoon is still cool with providing his BRD service to the BCNM which leaves us with only the need another DD (can be anyone) and a main healer (another RDM or WHM would be fine, if I do a good tanking job, I won?t need much healing).

If possible, we should try and keep this as a LS only run, and I suggest we just split all gil received from the loot equally 6 ways. As long as that is agreeable with everyone else ^_^

As for Garlaige. Darwock, am I correct in thinking you are looking for the furnace? If so, I also need to do that quest, and I have no idea where it is. We can head out and look for that too if other people wish.

I suggest for both of these activities we let Darwock get to 40 (BCNM and Sneak) which I am sure he could achieve over the weekend with good party/parties.
