I always thought the 'tower of power' threesome looked pretty damn awesome. Has to be a MD1 and MCD1 though of course The MCD1 is a thing of beauty, the MCD2 looks somewhat cheap (no offense to anyone who uses one).

Let us know when you get your MCD and we can start a topic. There're a few of us MCD fans (and haters) here!

Top row shows more crap needed to complete the Saturn collection while the bottom row features the most expensive Saturn "game" I've bought yet at 38'000 yen!! (www.xe.com), Heim Waltz. Even my factory sealed Eyeful Home didn't cost that much! Next to that two very nice Mega CD titles, Silpheed and Heimdall, which I didn't even know was released in Japan or anywhere come to think of it.

Hopefully it'll be here today fingers crossed, if not probably Monday as it's coming to my work address.

@Yakumo, don't know about Heimdall but Silpheed definately got a PAL release as well, remember being really impressed with the graphics at the time, although I later read that the Mega CD wasn't actually shifting any polygons, can't remember what trick they said was used.

It was just playing back FMV; the backgrounds were non-interactive video. Namco's Starblade employed a similar technique.

The only real time 3D was the ships, which accounts for the rather weedy end of level bosses.

              Heimdall is great

Used to love playing that on my Amiga back in the day.

              Looked amazing at the time.
Graphics were gorgeous...didnt know it had a Mega CD release.

Ahh yes that was it, if I played it now it would probably be pretty obvious but I was a mere child at the time so was easily impressed.

I have to admit that at the time I assumed it was 3D, too.

It still looks like real 3D even now.

Yeah, I know Silpheed got a PAL release and a US release too. I wasn't aware that Heimdall actually got a Mega CD release though. Looks like it was only released in Japan.

Silpheed really does look like real 3D like samanosuke said and it is interactive is a way as some parts can damage you. Game Arts did a fantastic job at perfectly clean FMV on the Mega CD. What I don't get is why does the earth like level move so jerky if it's only FMV?

Silpheed was one of those games that made me go wow (back in the day)

Sorry misread it as both games, actually by the looks of it Heimdall got a US release as well

The Earth level looks **** because it's trying to display images that aren't flat, grey polygons, which tend to come across ok.

Also, I imagine the original footage of the Earth level probably looked a bit rough before they put it through the MCD's grainy FMV, given the relative tech at the time.

Remember, this was a time when even this was cutting edge:

I really need to learn English again to explain myself When I said the earth level looked jerky I meant that the frame rate on the video is very low but on the flat shaded polygon areas the frame rate is pretty good. If it's video running then what is shown on the video shouldn't make any difference to the frame rate, should it?

Depends at what frame rate the earth level was actually rendered at BEFORE it was put through the FMV machine...which is kinda my original point.
