Whats that, Comanche?, I remember when voxels were touted as the next big thing before graphics cards really took off, Outcast still looks pretty decent even now despite using them.

There are two games that for me define the Mega CD. Final Fight (arcade perfect 2 player port, shat on the SNES version) and Sonic CD (the best 2D sonic game ever made).

Depending on the compression and container formats used some frames of video can decode faster than others depending on their content so that could have been a factor also.

I must say that trying to reignite a "console war" that was fought by ten year olds in playgrounds and schoolyards, and ended about fifteen years ago, seems... sort of odd.

My SFC wee wee'ed on my Mega Drive but then my Wondermega shat all over the SFC Ah, the good old playground "My console is better than yours" bollocks I was lucky back then because I had a JPN MD and a SFC so the best of both worlds was at hand.

This. Never saw the point of the war either. I had a SFC, MD, PC-E and an Amiga. All bases covered. Each machine had gems, and each turds.

While I think Sonic CD may be the best 2D Sonic , it didn't use the Mega CD to its fullest imo. The FMV carton intro was one of the worst on the Mega CD in terms of quality of the playback , it hardly used the 8 PCM in game (bar the past tracks) , and the bonus section looked pretty poor , with jerky scrolling and no sprite scaling on the sprites .
Final Fight was ace though , more or less the Coin Up in your home , amazing back then .

To me Batman Returns , shows off the Mega CD is all its splendour. Roation and scaling that no other console could handle back then with buildings that looked the most solid and convincing , smoothing scale past , explosions the size of the screen , and immense soundtrack . It was truly jaw dropping back then . Lunar too, was simply amazing , not only the best RPG (still) , but one of the few games, where I cared about the world and the characters , and one of the few RPG's , that when finished , I want to play through again .

Also while no doubt PC users will say their version had more colour , To be able to play near Perfect version of Rise Of the Dragon and Wing Commander was something special back then , more so as Wing Commander had all the scaling and rotation effects , and gave the 8 PCM chip a good world out with all the speech and effects .

There are two games that define the Mega CD to me: Snatcher and Snatcher.

Of course, as the SNES apparently shat on everything barring Final Fight CD it could have easily handled a far superior port of the game (just like it did with Final Fight ).
