    The desire to do my own GBC frontlight mod has been lurking at the back of my mindbrain ever since Cauterize posted his on here. So I finally got round to doing it today, and here's the result;

I didn't take too much care knocking it together. To be honest, I assumed I would balls it up on my first attempt, that's why I used a cheap ass GBC, with scratches on it. Wish I'd used one of my own mint ones now. I was pretty chuffed when I turned it on and it worked. Well, I was stunned the light actually on, then I realised I was playing Invisible Seiken Densetsu; the screen was perfectly illuminated, but utterly blank. Then I realised I'd forgotten to push the tabs back down which secure the screen ribbon. After I'd remedied that, it worked like a charm.

The hardest part is removing a piece of plastic which is in the way of the extra long frontlight screen, for which I really could have done with a dremel. I just melted it with a soldering iron and when I came to, a few hours later, I smoothed it off nicely with some sand paper. I would also NOT recommend using a transparent GBC, because any scratches or cock-ups you make on the inside will be visible for all to see from the outside.

That is amazing! Wanna mod mine?

Lol, that would be fine, I'll just require a spare gba sp. Or maybe you'd do better to ask Cauterize, he actually bothered to use anti-static cloths and stuff, whereas I could not be arsed.

Actually I qas quite impressed that it was very easy to simply put the SP back together afterwards. It works fine, it just isn't frontlit anymore.

Saw the one on the right a few years ago on Miau.pt but missed it. Not sure how legit it is but it's a fun game none the less. Quite happy regardless.

Final Bout = y'arr. Never seen one with that 'blue' cover though, much nicer than the regular (Chinese?) one.

Fantastic work Sorrel! Looking great. Did you use any anti-glare stuff as I can only look at mine from a certain angle.

Nah I didn't use anti-static cloths, but wish I did. Few specks of dust, drives me mad.

I got another battered SP the other day to attempt the mod again, so I'll probably do it properly now. Duddyroar, should my second attempt (if/when I do it) be successful, i'll have a spare one

The chiptune artists/shop offer really cool backlight DMGs which might be worth getting if modding isn't your thing.

Trying to build up the courage to do a backlit Neo Geo Pocket now

Lol, I bough one of those backlit DMGs a while back. Sold it on after, cost way to much for them to have it done.

I might order a green kit and do my Green DMG.

Yeah it's quite swish looking. Just waiting on my other two little surprises to show now.

That's a really nice GBC light, I don't think I've ever seen a GB, GBC or GBA game clearly before!

Thanks god for backlights as standard.

I got my Everdrive cartridge through the post today. It comes without a case but modding one is nice and easy with a very hot craft knife.

Excellent, two great pieces of hardware posted recently. Great job with the backlight mod, I really like it. I remember fitting an Afterburner mod to a GBA when they came out, one piece of dust stuck though and it drove me nuts. I then read to do the mod in the bathroom! run a hot shower for a few minutes, as the moisture in the air from it settles on all the surfaces it takes the dust with it, then you move in with your bits into a dust free room, nice theory!

And that Everdrive, Link83 introduced me to them today, I am gobsmacked - brilliant, absolutely brillant. NEED ONE!

Thanks for the tip, man Will test that out on my next attempt. Should be pretty safe, with my soldering iron balanced over the bath, cannot see any problems there.
