?20 for the saturn 30 for the master system, did i get a good deal? couldnt find any better. anyway, i await delivery of them (i dont even have any saturn games haha i just thought ?20 for a saturn was really cheap)

i have about ?50 left after selling my laptop and buying these + other things, anyone reccomend a good game for the saturn? i only want 1 or 2, but they have to be GOOD, and ALSO have great replayability (since im only getting 1-2 games for it right now i wanna make them last)

    preferibly 2 player...

    thanks guys
so can anyone tell me if i picked up a bargain here or not? ive only recently started buying so much retro stuff i dont actually even *want* so its all new to me and each purchase is like a birthday present waiting to arrive from the hands of a relative...haha..anyway..yeah

I think perhaps the SMS was slightly overpriced - I usually have trouble selling those at all. The last bundle I sold was with about 14 games and it went for ?16 - that was with a tatty box and a few unboxeds though.

I normally sell unboxed Saturns for ?10; that one you've got appears in quite good nick though, so ?20 is all good for that, I reckon.

i did try and knock off ?5 for the SMS but i wanted it shipped today and the seller hadnt invoiced me for the cheaper price so i just put up with ?5 extra than i would have paid

That Master System does appear to be in absolutely lovely condition so I'd say ?30 is a very good price.

that sounds great, but what about the games? I only ever touched a MS once and i dont really know any games on it or the rarity of the games that come with it. are any of them any good ? it comes with Golden Axe, is the MD version a straight port of the MS version or is there a difference?

The SMS version is pretty amazing, its only one player but has some mega sprites and some awsome still shots for an 8bit.

None of them are straight out the top drawer of SMS games, but Golden Axe is a solid conversion, Rescue Mission is a pretty fun light-phaser game and Road Rash really pushes the system graphically (and is kinda uncommon, probably the rarest you've got there). I'm a big fan of Rampart aswell, but the SMS version seems to split opinions like Marmite.

Loads of the best SMS games are pretty common, grab yourself cheap copies of Fantasy Zone, Wonder Boy III and Psycho Fox (to name just 3) and you'll be kicking it with 1987's finest

Hehe, that makes me feel really old. Only touched an MS once

Not really retro I suppose, but I just got a brand new copy of Castlevania:Circle Of The Moon for ?8 & a mint Link's Awakening DX for the same price.

Just picked up Actraiser on the Snes for ?2 in a YMCA charity shop. Boxed - but no instructions. Shame as the box is in top condition. Great game though - now own two copies of it - couldn't pass it up at two spond!

?30 for a boxed Master System and a few games is a very fair price. I sold my MSII with 20 games (some without instructions but all boxed) for ?60 last year on ebay. The market price of MS stuff seems to be rising slightly so ?30 is more than fair.

On the subject of Golden Axe, for the MS it's a passable conversion but I don't share the same positive views as Baseley and anagrama. Personally I think it's a dire game. The visuals are washed out, the control is all to pot and it feels like you're playing in jerk-o-vision. There's no two-player option - a crime when you consider how much fun the arcade and MD versions are with this feature. Plus you can only play as Ax Battler - the other two characters have been removed. Back in the day, when the MD was still very expensive, I'm sure this conversion made many MS owners happy. But these days you can pick up a MD and a copy of Golden Axe for next to nothing and it's a much better conversion.

TBH most of the games you've got with the system are pretty average. However the positive thing is that you can now collect all the classics - which is fun in itself. And MS software prices tend to be on the cheap side.

                        A few recommendations:

ANY Alex Kidd game apart from High-Tech World
R-Type (amazing conversion second only to the PCE)
                        Rastan
                        Psycho Fox
                        Lord of the Sword
                        Fantasy Zone
                        Y's Vanished Omens
                        Shinobi
                        Power Strike (Aleste)
                        Wonderboy 1, 2 & 3
                        Golvellious

Plus loads of other games I'm sure other people can mention.

hooray, my PC Engine Duo turned up today and it's in amazing condition. It's all boxed with inserts and instructions and Lords of thunder is wonderful. If you're reading this Superfamifreak thanks a lot

Master System Fantasy Zone is great fun, but I always preferred the PC Engine version.

As you can see, my collection of import MD games is coming along nicely, the artwork alone does it for me. Forget that new page 3 girl 'Keeley' that everyone keeps going on about...this is proper eye candy!

The PC Engine version is good, but considering what the machine was capable of, it's not that great a conversion of the coin-op really.
Whereas the Master System was a much more limited machine, but had a first-rate conversion. And besides, it always feels more 'natural' playing Sega arcade ports on Sega hardware
