I just put a PAL version into my JP machine and it wasn't having any of it, same with the Christmas NiGHTS disc that came with SSM.

If I'd had thought I could've checked to see if my switched PAL machine would boot up in USA mode... but that involves going upstairs again.

I was introduced to the joys of the Saturn with a multiplayer (6 at least) session of Deathtank at a meet last Saturday.

On my return to work today (must have eaten something that disagreed with me at the weekend) I felt terrible Sunday night and not much better Monday or Tuesday!!! I though I had better have a scan of ebay and after much deliberation decided to start with a cheap PAL system (?21.99 including postage) with two controllers and three boxed games (I think... there was Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2). No Scart so I bought a brand new RGB Scart Lead. There was also a new sealed Datel Action Replay. Finally I bought Quake and put in a bid on Duke Nukem, the last not being of the "Buy it now" type. If that fails I'll have to try again.

No sign of a multitap at the moment.

Death tank is a blast. If you fancy multiplayer you might also try to hunt down Saturn Bomberman which is possibly the best bomberman around and supports 10 player mode..!

Multitaps are not so hard to find, there are usually quite some japanese bomberman multitaps around which also should do the trick.

Does anyone know any sites that sell Saturn RGB leads with separate audio out? I need one since my current RGB cable does not have that and the audio sounds really ****e, it has a loud humming noise in the background, especially with lots of white on screen.

You may want to try consoleplus.co.uk mate.

Just got me a couple of brand new multitaps from there for a pretty reasonable price. It's going to be a weekend of beer and Bomberman for me!

There was a multitap on ebay finishing tomorrow so I may give that a shot before resorting to Console Plus (thanks for the tip).

May have to look out a copy of Bomberman then. How rare is it?

Not rare, but as PAL games go it goes for more than most. You should be able to get a copy for ?12-20 depending on how the eBay fishes are biting.

if you are a fan of bomberman there's a box set released in Japan called SBOM box set that contains JPN title and Bomberman Joypad. There's Bomberman multi-tap as well as Bomberman AV selector... I've been collecting Bomberman joypad for few years now and now have 6-7 plus multi-tap and av selector - though av selector is being used by my cousin in Osaka ... I was planning to get all ten joypads and two multi-taps - only three more pads to go but I kind of lost the interest at the moment so not sure when I will get the complete Bomberman 10 multi-play setups...

oh, you can't beat Layer Section for some great classic 2D shooting action. I'm happy that you like the music. I tought that I was the only one who liked it

it has a cool upbeat 'spacey' soundtrack like you said. it sounds even better with the bass volume way up! the game action is also fast and intense at times, and yeah, there are situations where you get hit and you don't know what the hell hit ya! i'm going to try and beat the game, though

Got a party a week on Friday and we've managed to secure Bomberman, Multitap and 9 (at last count) Saturn pads. Joy of joys.

Layer section is friggin awesome, pity the sequels were such total dirt. It's one of cheapest import shooters and wipes the floor with many of the expensive ones, Radiant Silvergun included. My only gripe is if you play it in vertical mode it automatically selects "Arcade" difficulty which is just too hard for my liking, particularly when trying to 1 credit it.

I found Layer section 1 to be slightly boring and part 2 to be pretty good, especially the music there. Its just that LS2's poly's are quite a bit inferior to the PSX version.

But for shmups with this kind of lock on gameplay, Soukyugurentai is my favorite.
