It's miles above trash like the Saturn port of Sega Touring Car (which was Sega in-house, by the same people as the critically acclaimed Virtua On port).
Granted WipEout 2097 was ace, but Manx TT had poor AI and the game was only playable with the analogue pad, plus it has slowcar booster always on which just ruined the races.

It was a case of all graphic's and no gameplay.

HOTD had way too many bugs in it and was missing some of the zombies, plus the final boss wasn't right his attacks are much faster in the arcade. To be fair it wasn't a bad port for the time they had, but I do think Sega's teams would have done a better job.

More of a fault in the game itself than the port to be fair, though I did like Manx TT.

Visually it was the closest anything came to Sega Rally at the time, and the framerate was decent too.

Noticed this on ebay. A Brazilian PAL version of the "Skeleton" Saturn. Didn't know these existed!

According to altavista, it's 'game' in Portugese.

I thought wipeout 2097 on the saturn was gash to be honest!, frame rate was terrible, i guess i was spoiled by the psx version. That was always the case thought when they did bog standard ports of psx games, they needed to start from the ground up really

It'll be PAL-M, which is basically the same idea as PAL60.

Just got me my modded Saturn. Can anyone recommend me some good RPG's? JAP is ok, especially if you know sites that have written translations for them. I know there's a translation for Princess Crown out there anyway.

And, are the Sakura Wars games worthy of the hype?

Actually the Brazillian Saturn and DC were NTSC. Since 1990 Brazillian TVs have been PAL-M, PAL-G and NTSC compatable.

Bizarre, I thought they were PAL, but am prolly wrong.

@Champloo: I've got a JAP Grandia (very good condition) and PAL Mystaria (booklet is a bit battered, but game plays ok) and PAL Shining Wisdom (CD only) up for sale...

Mystaria was one of the first RPG's I really loved to play, I think it was the first RPG on Saturn (PAL anyway).

Just wanted to say how much im enjoying my 'new' saturn. Only played Out run which i adore, panzer dragoon and sega rally which are ok but i didnt by a saturn for its 3d capabiltys. That said its 3d grunt also impresses, much more so than id imagined.(with its afterthought redesign i expected the 3d side of things to be unable to match the psx, infact its pretty close to my un-tech eyes) v.nice

If it's RPG's you want there are plenty on the Saturn.

Shining Force III scenario 1,2 & 3 just about one of the best game's ever made.
                          Shining the Holy Ark
                          Ogre Battle
                          Tactic's Ogre
                          Story of Thor 2
                          Vandal Heart
                          Genso Suidoken
                          Dark Saviour
                          Dragon Force 1 & 2
                          Mystaria 1 & 2
                          Langrisser 1 to 5
                          Lunar 1 & 2
                          Feda: The Emblem of Justice
                          Panzar Dragoon Saga
                          Black Matrix
                          Albert Odyssey
                          Magic Knights Rayearth
                          Wachenroder

That just a sample of some of the better one's, quite a few are english & other had english versions released on other formats. So may be able to find the game's script around the net or have plenty of player guides on the net.

Have yet to play the Sakura Wars games but they are on my to get list.

Got JAP and PAL (PS) Grandia, so i'll have to pass on that one. But out of curiosity, is the Saturn version supposed to be better than the PS version?

I might take Shining Wisdom of your hands and possibly Mystaria, if the price is right, I don't know how much these 2 sell for. Or were you after any trades?

Big list here, and a few I havn't heard of, cheers S3M.

Is it worth playing SF III, even though only the first part was released in English, or are the different parts not story related?

                            Thanks again.

                              No prob's

                              Just remembered

                              Phantasy Star Collection
                              Shadows of the Tusk

Are also worth looking into as well. There are a lot more out there but that's a run down of the very best for now.

As for Shining Force III once's you play the first part you know about 80% of the story. The English translation did cover up scenario's two and three, as they mucked around with the ending and some of the other ingame story.

There is a almost finished translation of scenario 2 & 3 at www.shiningforcecentral.com word of warning the translation is very very bad in places and needs rewriting but you get the idea as to whats going on.

I've played though both without a translation and didn't have any problems. Shame plug now but I do run an unfinished guide website to Shining Force III at www.geocities.com/shining3master

There's plenty of nice pictures on my site to help you decide if you want to play them.

Haven't play the PS version of Grandia, but alot of people I know have said the Saturn version was better. There was also a special edition release which had a cloth map and other bits with it and Grandia Digital Museum was a massive bonus game which had you exploring new locations to unlock the games artwork, movies and other extra's. It had some ace mini games on it as well.

I'll have to give Shining Force III a try then. A few others to finish first but it's on my list. Thanks for the translation link, should be a great help and nice site.

Think i'll also try Wachenroder and Terra Phantastica, they both look very nice.

I've got a spare copy of Sakura Wars by the way if you want it, it's just the disc and map but I can pop it in the post for you.
