I've still got a load of Psygnosis carrier bags in the loft, got them from a games show in the 80/90s. I might auction 1 on ebay for a laugh

I can't believe this thread has went on for so long and not one person has mentioned The Killing Game Show. It's premise is that of a violent Rainbow Islands crossed with lots of high tech guns plus a little bit of old school lock/key puzzle action with the brown acid river of of death constantly rising as you try to get to the top of each level in a twisted Running Man rip off scenario. Plays great and has a splendid soundtrack on the Amiga version unlike the Megadrive port called Fatal Rewind.

Agony also was stunning at the time with the Psygnosis Owl as the main sprite travelling through several graphical intense levels of visual splendour. I think it was coded by Travelers Tales who are still around today. More of a nice sight seeing tour than a proper shoot em up though.

Hired Guns and Walker were also really well done as well.

The Killing Game Show was by Bizarre Creations, now famous for releasing Metropolis Street Racer/Project Gotham over and over...

Agony was actually by a developer called Art and Magic, who I don't think exist anymore, at least not under that name.

I only had the Killing Game Show for the Megadrive- and it sucked big time. Once again Psygnosis made a rock-hard unforgining game- that most people played for 10minutes and never returned to!

Agony was an amazing looking game- can't remember if it played well!

There best game for me is Wiz?n?Liz which I played on the Megadrive, and I think it made it on to Amiga to. Lightning fast (Zool fast but with Mario/Sonic?esk perfect control), collect?um?up against the clock to zone out the map(looped scrolling map) with as many item as you could carry after collecting the desired letters to make a stupid word. Any item carried out of the level would be stocked in the ?overworld? map that containing all the doors to different worlds and huge Pot that you ould drop item into to cook spells up to aid you, this could be anything from extra time, lives, stupid effects like turning everything in rabbits or having Lemmings walking around the map, to hidden mini games like throwing tomato?s at Pugbsy(how many remember that game) or asteroids clone.

Odd though that it still wasn't a patch graphically on SOTB?

The MD version may well have sucked (I've never played it) but the Amiga game was pretty fair when it was being insanely hard; I got quite a way through it eventually.

                  Surprised no-one has mentiond 'Terrorpods'
A fairly good attempt at a mule-type strategy effort, also with Roger Dean artwork on the box....I have an ST version somewhere, maybe I'll dig it out and post a pic or two.

Was that the game with the red tripod enemies that had pointed faces? Sort of like a first person shooter.

Terrorpods is a game released in 1987

EDIT - yes it was! I used to love this game, mainly for the artwork.

SOTB has a sharp clean detailed look that imo was never matched by any other Psygnosis game. Agony did look beautiful though- but I agree it wasn't as breath-taking as SOTB!

Agony might not have been as visually spectacular as Beast was, but it certainly had a more epic feel to it, mainly because of the music. The intro theme was amazing, and I loved the tune on the first level.

                          Awesome cover art. Literally.

Damnit they don't make game art like they used to...

Do you know who did that artwork? It looks very Chris Foss to me.

Disruptor was great, but it was an Insomniac game.

Let's hope I-8 will be a worthy "sequel".

Btw, are you sure Psygnosis developed the first Formula 1 for PSX? Wasn't it by Bizarre Creations? Or maybe it was developed by Bizarre and published by Psygnosis?
