Hmmm, I bought a GC some years ago (that special Zelda/Mario Kart DD pack) but sold it 2 days later - just did not enjoy it. Just getting too old for games in a way - I love the old stuff for it's nostalgia as much as anything.
Souding like an old grump now but I really just like 2D mostly - hate with a vengance Mario 64 etc. I can never imagine selling my SFC/PC Engine/Saturn but as for the N64/DC/PSX I would sell them tomorrow if it was not for 1 or 2 essential games on each. Having said all that Christmas Day this year with my 10 and 13 year old cousins playing their Wii was great fun...

The only console I bought on launch was the DC, although I picked the Saturn up when the second edition of the console was released, even though I didn't really know much about it.
Every now and then I like to play the new games that "everyone" is playing, simply to share a common current interest, but in truth, there are so many good games out there that I haven't played, it doesn't matter whether they came out in the last week or the last decade.
Not to mention, the prices on these new consoles... I'll possibly pick them up later on, but time will tell.

Used to be strictly retro. Didn't have a single new system and hated new stuff. But then discovered Katamari Damacy, Fight Night, Biohazard 4 etc. and now tend to lean a bit towards the newer machines. Possibly because a lot of the older titles, especially Neo stuff like Garou is available for the newer systems.
In the case of Garou I kind of prefer the PS2 version, blasphemy I know, but I feel I've played a lot of the old stuff to death.
At one point I had a gigantic Saturn collection and realised apart from the occasional blast on it, wasn't using it enough, so decided to 'move on' as such.
As far as the very new consoles such as 360, Wii etc. I usually wait until at least a year after launch, I think the prices are extortionate and I'm a tight sod! Also I don't appreciate Microsoft releasing another Xbox when I'm perfectly happy with the first one and will be for quite some time, same goes for PS2.
But hey horses for courses.Last edited by Escape-To-88; 15-01-2007, 22:08.3DS FC (updated 2015): 0447-8108-3129

Yeah i know what you mean, the most modern console i own is a ps2,which i never play, and a gba (but i dont count that as i only buy old snes games for it mostly) thinking of getting shot of the ps2 for a pc engine and/or a Neo. Im easy to tempt with shiny new kit though and often buy teh next gen hardware only to sell it on (hello/goodbye ds/psp/x360) im with you on the nostalgia tip too, modern games are rubbish

A big reason why I buy all the latest machines, is simply because, I want to know what they're all about- and be able to discuss them.
I would say I'm 50% retro. Sometimes I buy a game like Halo2, Gears Of War, Test Drive etc... and feel sick at how cold and depressing they are. The lack of fun in them, and the empty feeling I get, makes me go back to retro, or buy new retro stuff.
The best retro titles, are always easy to get to grips with, offer instant enjoyment, and lots of satisfying thrills in a short space of time.
A lot of big name modern titles are over-hyped, and tend to have little charisma. I just get bored of saying, " Nice lighting effect, look at that great texture work, but... why aren't I having fun? "
Then I have a go on some classic retro title, and my mind says, " Holy Gods of fun, now I remember why I love videogaming! "
Maybe there are people who genuinely love all the modern titles I dislike, but there is no doubt retro games can feel a lot different, and sometimes that difference is very very appealing.
My favourite modern games are either arcade style, 2D, or have an old-skool flavour. That says a lot!

im one of those late bloomers, only got into gaming about a year after the PSX was released, since then ive gone backwards and forwards building my collection as I go. I cant go older then Genesis if im honest, although thats most likely to do with the era I got into gaming.
I love my Sega consoles most, but probably not for the games people expect for example I love Deep Fear on the Saturn and would probably say its my fave game on it. Shmups really dont do it for me though - I find them too irritating to be fun - again thats most likely me being spoiled by the ease of games since the PSX. Having said that I enjoyed the original Devil May Cry something rotten, even S ranked the game in Hard and Dante Must Die Difficulties.
Overall i'd say im quite keen on going backwards and I do enjoy some old titles lots. None-the-less my PS2 is my most used console...
I dont like the 360 at the moment either, its far to bland. I have a PS3 now too and thats only getting used for Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection - although once I recieve my Virtua Fighter 5 i'll be on it for ages.Last edited by Shozuki; 15-01-2007, 23:13.

I'm mostly Retro to be honest plus I have no urge at all to buy a PS3 or 360. I do own a Wii though
Here's what I have (all Japanese NTSC).
Sega Master System
Sega Mega Drive
Sega Mega Drive II (for the stereo out from the back and RGB)
Sega Mega CD
Sega Saturn
Hitachi Hi-Saturn
Sega Dreamcast (4 of them all different)
Nintendo Famicom
Nintendo Super Famicom
Nintendo 64
Nintendo Wii
Neo Geo Pocket Colour
Wonder Swan Crystal (no games)
Sony PlayStation (3rd one because they keep f*ing dieing)
and I think that's about it.

I'm a bit like Leon, really. I'd love to be able to get into more modern stuff, but I just find their boastings of progress and maturity to be largely false, and since they've forsaken pure fun and imagination in favour of pursuing those things, I'm usually left with very little to like. Fave current-gen games have been SotC, MP2: Echoes (still waiting for one that actually learns from SM, though), the Zeldas and Killer7, all of which are full of soul and proud to be video games.
My PS2 games are mostly shmups and 'retro' collections, and the Mega Man collections probably get the most love on my Cube. It might sound odd coming from a Contra fan, but I'm bored of all these uber-macho 13-year-old's-wet-dream games. I wouldn't mind them if they had some of Contra's kind of imagination, but their environments and enemies are largely boring, almost as if the artists have taken themselves far too seriously, or are just dull bastards (). I loved the dystopian environments in Fallout, but GoW's attempts (for example) are incredibly unremarkable. The gameplay just doesn't shine through enough to excuse the audiovisual boredom...
So, er, yeah, some massive generalisations there, but I'm just another one who's fed up with modern design in general.Last edited by Klatrymadon; 16-01-2007, 09:46.
