Hmmm maybe it was Riot City? Sega 1991.

Looks like Final Fight but more like a slum setting. Man, who'd want to live in Riot City? Must be a nightmare!

I think I was too scared to play Spidey at the time as it looked like it was a real money eater. Besides, I'd probably have ended up having to be Submariner or something. Rubbish.

        Nah.

But I do agree with JazzFunk - The SNES and MD conversions of KotR really weren't great, and that's probably counting against the coin-op which (lest we forget) was highly rated by many at the time.

That said, I still disagree entirely with Oh_Mutants - most of the other titles have aged badly and are considerably less playable than KotR. With the exception of a few other Capcom titles like Final Fight and Alien Vs Predator, KotR still betters a lot of titles listed on this thread.

To be fair though, Oh_Mutants raises a good points about "classics" likes Bad Dudes & Double Dragon still getting honourable mentions, but that can really only go so far for the simple fact that everything else afterwards betters those titles hands down and that the playability on these titles today is much diminished.

As a matter of fact, I've played most of these titles listed in this thread (thanks to MAME, obviously), and KotR not only looks better than most 10 or 15 years on, it plays a damn sight better too. And, there's no way that The Punisher and Undecover Cops have more variety and depth. C&D is debatable, but even that's pushing it, imo.

I can't be 100% sure it was by Sega, but I think it was (despite it not being on the KLOV list.) It definitely wasn't Guardians Of The Hood (!) but I think it came out around a similar time to that and Vendetta.
Apologies for self-indulgently quoting myself here, but I've found out what that mystery Sega side-scrolling brawler was called.

          It was D.D. Crew:

D D Crew is a Videogame by Sega (circa 1990). A four-player beat-em-up. Save the city from the Evil Gang who are hell-bent on blowing up large sections of the city.

My mistake - I could've sworn that there was a MD conversion....

Guess we're gonna just have to agree to disagree on this one Nu-Eclipse
Tenchi Wo Kurau is an awesome game, which had slipped my mind actually (despite recently re-acquiring it on PS1)...

Far better game than Knights Of The Round

Oh, and i'll throw Combatribes (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?...=&game_id=7374) into the ring too, really violent little game with a nice tongue in cheek style to it

There's some corkers being listed here that I've never heard of. Armoured Warriors, Battle Circuit, Mutation Nation and Asterix all look mint!

It's funny how big arcade ROMs got, Bad Dudes was about 667b and Armored Warriors was about 24Mb!

I liked Combat Tribes - I loved the way you could throw motorbikes at the gang members!

Thanks to everybody who's been giving input - you've outdone yourselves!

                      Any more?

                        1) Golden Axe

                        2) Arabian Fight

                        3) Double Dragon (kneeing someone head will never age)

                        4) Sengoku II

                        5) Final Fight

Come now, that's nonsense. On MAME, I think that you'll find that KotR holds up extremely well against any title listed in this thread, tbh.
I think Golden Axe: Revenge Of Death Adder is better than Knights of the Round in every department. 4 characters to pick from each of them more diverse with more moves, proper magic unique to each character, the creatures you can ride are much better than the horses in KOTR, and the enemies and bosses look much better. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned more but that maybe because it never made it to any console.

I would also expect Shadows Over Mystara to be a lot better than KOTR.

                            1 - Punisher
2 - Spiderman Arcade - I can't believe no one else as mentioned this, I used to love the sound the bad guys made it was kind of like a Michael Jackson noise.
                            3 - Final Fight
                            4 - Double Dragon
                            5 - Aliens Vs Predator

                              oh i forgot i loved sengoku 3

with aliens vs predator and sengoku 3 was there was a certain amount of improvisation you could do, with most scrolling fighters it was just a case of hamering a button for the same basic combo but in them two you could juggle and it was so cool when in avp when i discovered with the predator after his basic combo attack against the first boss i could then chain that into his dragon punch style move.

for me i reckon its the following:

                                1. The Punisher
                                2. Alien Vs Predator
                                3. Cadillacs and dinosaurs
                                4. final fight
                                5. shadow warriors

but like nembot i prefer the single plane affairs

                                1. splatterhouse
                                2. shinobi
                                3. rygar
                                4. shadow dancer
                                5. dragon ninja
