Just remembering tryin Autobahn Tokio last year as it has such a great intro but the game itself is terrible. On a pal console it was unplayable.

Having now seen the Jaguar Scart cable in action, it is an absolute must, more so than any other console. The AV cable output is piss poor with a messy picture and poor sound. The scart cable is absolutely crystal clear and makes a massive difference.
I'm also amazed at the difference between the NTSC and Pal 3DO. Samurai Shodown has MASSIVE borders round the edge on a Pal machine, but on the NTSC one you get it in it's full screen glory. I always remembered the borders but seeing them both, the Pal versions were seriously gimped.
Does anyone know why these regional differences were so pronounced?Last edited by Skull Commander; 28-05-2009, 20:26.

Crash N Burn isn't region-locked but it glitches on PAL consoles - that is the sound glitches. I think in-game it's pretty playable, but the pre-game video goes wildly out of sync.

I'v just been playing Primal Rage on the 3DO. Another pretty solid conversion. It's missing the victory music and pauses slightly just after you take your opponents final bit of energy, but apart from that it's pretty spot on.
PS If you still have your NTSC Way of the Warrior I'll swap you for my pal one...

On the lookout for a NTSC FZ-1 when I get some spare cash though, it's a gorgeous looking machine and from what someone said above, solidly built. The towers on it remind me of the front of the N64. Can the FZ-1 output RGB? I have no S-Video. The Goldstar one could only do composite, bizarre move by an electronics manufacturer for a machine which was supposed to be the future of gaming.

Here's the games I had for mine in 2006 on a PAL Goldstar, but don't have it any more. I'm not sure if something was wrong with it, a lot of the games were slow or jerky, and having never seen another unit running with the same games, I couldn't honestly tell you. I know that some games were and some games weren't, so maybe it was just the games.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Slayer - Doomalike, wasn't really a fan, controls didn't work for me.
Alone In The Dark 2 - Decent, it's a good conversion of AITD2 if a little treacle slow feeling.
Battlesport - Fun in 2 players.
Captain Quazar - Fun runabout killing in a style of Loaded or The Chaos Engine but not quite top down. Sprites a bit too big for comfort but ok mindless fun.
D - Kenji Eno's disc of madness. Survival horror about 2 hours long and with no save points.
FIFA International Soccer - Didn't play it at all, stopped playing footy games by this point as they were getting on my tits.
Gex - OK platformer, nothing too exciting.
Gridders - 3D block-based puzzler, sort of a bit Sokoban in that you control a man instead of a cursor and you're avoiding some moving blocks and going after items, worth a look if it's what you're into.
Guardian War - Very crap and stale RPG (even in context of its release date) with FMV and Bomberman lookalikes, but not even as fun as that sounds.
Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller - Interesting story game, definitely worth your time.
Killing Time - Half-decent Doomalike but I couldn't get on with the controls on that pad.
Off-World Interceptor - Bonkers racing/shooting game with mad scenery and crap draw distance, alright for a bash.
Return Fire - Cracking vehicle-based capture the flag, best in 2 players.
Return Fire: Maps of Death - Expansion for the above.
Samurai Shodown - My copy was very jerky and the sound is horrible, no use to me as I own the MVS one but I still wouldn't recommend it if you don't.
Shock Wave - Good flying/shooting game. Possibly more fun with the (rare?) flight stick.
Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels - I'm sure this made sense to someone, but it did nothing for me, I couldn't work out where the fun was even after reading the manual and a FAQ.
Star Control 2 - Epic space brilliance. If you have a 3DO and not this, you're doing it wrong.
Starblade - Boring on-rails space shooter arcade conversion with minimal 3D objects over a video backdrop (think Space Channel 5 engine style, but crap). Very meh, although some people bring a spare pair of underwear for it. Play Starfox instead.
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo - Didn't really enjoy this on that pad and at the time I owned the CPS2 so it was no use to me.
Syndicate - Cracking, another game you simply MUST PLAY, but did one very important thing wrong, PC mouse-style controls on a joypad. The SNES version's controls are superior.
The Horde - People above loved this, but it did nothing for me. Saying that, I've never been a nurture/RTS enjoyer, so make of it what you will.
The Need For Speed - A bit slow now but great in context and worth firing up just for the dude's video clips. The Hero Biscuit speech being a particular favourite.
Total Eclipse - Fun space shooter with entertaining FMV. Not as good as Starfox but you can't play the same games all the time
Wing Commander 3 - Space epic on about a billion discs, great hammy acting from Mark Hamill. Probably your thing if you're into Star Trek type stories with tension between races and all that jazz. I didn't enjoy it as much as SC2, but it's still definitely worth a crack if you've got a few weekends free.
Hope that's of use to someone.

Hat Trick Hero is for sure imo one of the best soccer alternatives of the time, in the arcade at least. One of it's sequel/spin offs Taito Super Cup Finals was amazing at the time but to play it now seems even more limiting than the games before it! Cool still, but i'd rather do HTH than any of its reincarnations these days.
