Making an effort to clear Thunder Force II. The last stage is ridiculously difficult to beat (especially if you don't start with the Hunter weapon) so the key is to speedrun the overhead stages to get the time bonuses so you can stockpile lives. Several attempts now foiled by ridiculous deaths losing a ship to a lone bullet or crashing into the wall while blinking

    I will do this...

Exhumed on the Sega Saturn, which is pretty damn awesome.

I played Exhumed (aka Powerslave) about 5 years ago on the PS and it remains one of my favourite old FPS and yet it is so much more than that. Loved Quake II as well and I've recently found an updated copy of that so I'm thinking of doing it again.

Currently playing PS2 Onimusha 3: Demon Siege - if the gameplay wasn't still as engaging as in the two previous games I'd dump it like a lump of brown stuff. The script is an abomination of the bad and, I suspect, the badly translated. The voice acting is marginal even allowing for the script and for some reason they use Jean Reno at the start of the English language version but then replace him with a bland American actor. It just jars. It would be so much better if they just kept Jean Reno speaking French and used English subtitles. But unfortunately that option isn't available. Damn monsters!

Worst though is the sprite like character, Ako. What a 16+ rated game is doing with an annoying, kiddy level main character sidekick like her I can't imagine. With all this I can't remember another game that has made me cringe in embarrassment during almost every cut scene.

Had a right old afternoon of fun playing Navi trackers, the CPU didn't stand a chance. If only i had 3 other humans to play against would have been crazy fun, i sometimes feel like im the only person out there that plays this

Started Resident Evil 3 this weekend (on the Gamecube). Don't remember playing it since completing it on release back on the PS1. So far, so good. Can't beat that classic Resi gameplay.

Viewtiful Joe. One of the best games of the generation. Got it back out and started it up after reading the Retrospective on Eurogamer and its just as good as ever. I urge anyone to check it out and the article below:

I bought this fairly recently, but got stuck early on and never went back to it.

Thanks for the link and suggestion.

                I'll try it again!

Yoshi's Story (N64). It's a kids game I know, but, it also has a hidden depth. Once you get into it, it's quite a clever score attack game with combos, just perfect for rinsing. The past few weeks I've been learning the routes for the best scores and at the weekend I finally put together a complete run and got a fairly respectable 37,000 or so total.

                    An excellent article.

And no serious GameCube connoisseur's collection is complete without Viewtiful Joe.

That said, I felt at the time that Viewtiful Joe 2 was lacking the magic and freshness of its predecessor. I do owe it another playthrough, to be fair.

A Viewtiful Joe HD Collection (Just the two main games, none of the lame spin-offs) would almost certainly get my money.

Bought a US N64 a few weeks ago and only just got round to testing it, popped in the Mario 64 cart for a quick go to make sure it worked. Checked the time and 4 hours had gone and I was 50 stars into the game.
