I found CVX to be frustrating and dull. My least favourite game in the series. I lost everything I had trying to beat the

    Tyrant boss on the plane

. It took me so many tried to kill it. The controls feel even less suited to the game than earlier games.

Personally, it is my second favourite Resident Evil game behind REmake, but I can definitely see how it can be a marmite game. It is much slower paced that previous games, and the plot also doesn't seem to progress at a decent pace. The switched to real-time 3D didn't really add anything bar superior lighting, which is probably why they switched back with REmake and Zero.

For me, the strengths of the game were the settings (all of which had their own unique, eerie feel), and the strength of the antagonists and their background. This kept me riveted to the game. Not for everyone, though.

I've been playing Resident Evil 4 on the cube this week. Since completing it however many years back I've tried to revisit it in on various formats but it always felt lacking. Returning to the Cube version it's as great as it ever was. Looks amazing, controls are spot-on, totally intuitive, and I just can't leave it alone. This is the Resi 4 I remember. Good things straynger!

Need to pick up REmake too. I did try it many years ago but it kicked my ass all over the mansion.

Does CVX or REmake have an easy option?

            REmake does iirc.

CVX disc 1 was good for the time after getting to the 2nd disc I tuned out, those bastard spiders in the beginning of disc 2 pissed me right off the game. RE4 is the pinnacle even though it was a completely different beast, it just made changes that made sense and more accessible. Tank controls were just too stupid but hardcore fans were too loyal to admit it.

Yes it is available at the start from the menus but I think they call it somthing else. However it is one of those annoying games' design that patronise you when you get stuck for, what it considers, too long by offering an Easy Mode if you start off on Normal. I must have accidentally clicked yes. I didn't realise that until several sessions later and rather than cancel it was so concerned that I'd lose my progress I did't try to reset it. Consequently whenever I look at that save file now I'm embarrassed that it is tagged 'Easy'.

TBH it wasn't that easy but it is about the only game I can think of I've done in Easy mode on my first run through.

Never enjoyed RE3 due to the Nemesis appearing like clockwork and CVX, whilst I think it is the ultimate old style RE, it really did nothing new at all. I remember feeling the start areas as being an abominable slog which nearly put me off too. But if it wasn't for REMake and you simply wanted to try an old RE game I think CVX is the one to chose. Not done REZero yet though.

                  Doesn't it say something like:

                  "Do you enjoy climbing mountains?'

CVX is the only one of the old style I've not played. I briefly played it on DC but I found it too hard and not fun. REmake was tough too but I got through it. Resi 4 was the last of the series I played but I didn't finish it. Can't remember why.

I've been playing a lot of shadow dancer this week on the Mega Drive. It may not be a Super Shinobi but it's still a good game.

                        Get CV played, Acid!

I agree with most it is a bit of a slog in the second half, but if it's your first time through you probably won't even notice.

Second disc should have only been half the size imo. Even though I love classic resi, you could tell big time they'd completely ran out of steam towards the end.

Really enjoyed CV when i got it for DC. Probably my 3rd favorite after REmake & Res 2 and i never understood how some people found it so hard.

Probably the length made it hard. Being as success depends on effective item management, a longer game with numerous bosses is going to cause people headaches.

I had to play the game three times to finally complete it. The first time I got stuck on those stretchy armed buggers toward the end of the first disc and the second time I didn't take the right/sufficient ammo onto the plane.

Despite many wasted hours, I still rate it highly.

Funny how people call the old controls 'tank-like' -- RE4 changed not the controls, but the camera angle.

Yep and ironically that made it feel way more 'tank-like' than any of the previous Res games and is the main reason i never took to it.

I was actually going to say that - RE4 and 5 still have the tank controls, and even RE6 has an option to use them. The core controls of RE4 onwards are actually no different, it's just that the camera is now over the shoulder.
