Doom, Quake, Quake II, Hexen and a whole load of other original Xbox freeware ports I downloaded from an archive. With 75% of them, particularly the damned awful side scrolling beat 'em ups, I don't know why I bothered, they're either repetitive rubbish, don't work at all or have other serious technical or control issues. But amongst the dross are some really good arcade puzzle games and a few old FPS and platformers that I hadn't come across before that are still very playable.

Next time you fire up your spectrum(or emulator), give my dad's Star Trek game a whizz:

LOL poor spectrum, sure the games looked like crap compared to the competition but there are good selection of decent games in the massive mountain of wank software. Coinop conversions were always ****, where the spectrum shined was in unique games. Still play it even now just for the dizzy games & a few others, holds a lot of fond memories that computer.

Then again so does the electron i still play Elixir & Repton even nowdays.

The Spectrum had some excellent conversions. Off the top of my head - Green Beret, Bomb Jack and Commando were excellent for example.

Lord, I miss the days of coin op conversions on any format...sniff...sniff

Been playing Robotron 2084 and Sinistar this week. I remember playing the latter for the first time way back in an 80's seaside arcade and bricking myself when the Sinistar started bellowing threats and chasing my tiny star fighter

Back to Radiant Silvergun with a new lithium battery for my Saturn. It really is no chore, it remains a firm favourite to go back to in the last 15 or so years I've had it

Currently enjoying Gimmick! on the famicom, everything about it screams quality. Well made levels & lovey designed sprites, the difficulty is crushing though lol. Wish i owned a real copy but emulation will have to do as i don't have 40,000 yen to blow on a real copy.

No Owen it called the truth. Games like MOTD II, Kevin toms football manager, Jet Set Willy, Manic Minner, Jet Pack, Sabre Wulf, Knight Law , Cookie, Gift from the gods , Danger Mouse Ect, Ect were all brilliant games and they all started out life on the ZX.
It was a mighty games machine back in the early 80's and many of the coin up conversions like Enduro racer, Chase Hq were also better on the Zx Spectrum than the C64 or the Master System imo.
