What is the rolling eyes for? ... The Xbox & PS2 were in competition - and I felt the Xbox was much better in all areas. I had much more fun with the Xbox during that generation.

I'd put the Xbox behind the SNES, MegaDrive, NeoGeo, when it comes to machines I like. It delivered some nice games, but not many stand the test of time.

Mainly because these threads are great for a laugh, and you say the Xbox "felt" more modern then the ps2, there's a good reason for that, say about 18months or so. The ps2 was in competion later, before that it was with the Dreamcast, which didn't revolutionise anything, it was a great system, nothing more, nothing less.

The best part is how awesome the xbox is because it was more modern, but then other threads state all modern games and consoles are **** and how people only play 2D games. Thankfully that got the replies it desevered in the end.

If Ntsc is still running in 10-15years time, i bet every thread in this section is about how Hamaze and 1337 the ps3 and Xbox 360 was.

In some ways the PS2 was worse than the Dreamcast. I would say the visual output of the PS2 was always rough looking.

When I said the Xbox felt more modern, it did, and it was only a little bit later than the PS2. Also, the GameCube has nicer visual abilities than the PS2.

I like nice visuals. 2D doesn't need anti-aliasing etc.... When it comes to 3D - I've always stated that I don't like rough looking 3D. I much prefer clean looking 3D games. The Dreamcast was the first home system to deliver attractive 3D. Soul Calibur still looks pretty nice. No wonder I was amazed by it in 1999. The PS2 never amazed me. Various games for the Xbox did impress me a lot; mostly racing games.

That's not to say I love 3D gaming. I've said many times.. that I could live without 3D. I've played plenty of 3D games, but my Top50 games would mostly consist of 2D titles.

When I say I hate modern gaming, I'm talking about how I've been feeling over the past few years. I bought the 360 in 2006 and the PS3 in 2007, but I haven't enjoyed them much. I truely feel that gaming has become stale and uninspiring. Even LiveArcade & PSN games don't excite me.
I've become far more retro focused. My enthusiasm for 2D gaming is stronger than ever. 3D gaming has never really felt as good as the best 2D experiences.

I don't think anyone should take my ramblings too seriously. I just speak my mind at the moment - and sometimes I am a bit too extreme with my views. I will say the SNES, MegaDrive and NeoGeo are my favourite machines. I play them all the time - and they give me more pleasure than the 360, PS3 and Wii. I think more and more gamers are becoming 'retro only'. I'm at a point now where I'm 80% retro focused.

I think the Xbox is better than the PS2 if you mod the bastard, stick a massive drive in it and buy a decent stick and pads. If Carlsberg made consoles, this would be it! Unmodded, PS2 wins for me.

The PS2 has a great selection Shmups, loads of killer Cave titles

Did IGN take that into account? They are reason alone to own a Japanese PS2, providing you like arcade goodness. I'd sooner re-own a Japanese PS2 to play all the Cave shooters again, than a PAL PS2 and all its nonsense save ICO and God of War, maybe a couple of others.

I think the IGN poll was based on US machines and their US game Library,
also I don't think Danmaku Shmups would of made much differance as unfortunately its a small niche genere.

I was just mentioning the PS2 Shmups in comparing the console to the Xbox.
