It's a lovely handheld. I have a few NGPCs and one of them is that model and it's probably my favourite (my others feel cheaper, I think they may have been later knock-offs or something). There are many awesome games for it, as I'm sure you all know, but the big thing for me is how well they got fighting games to work on a system with just two buttons and a few colours. Some of my favourite fighting games are on that system.

Treated myself to this yesterday, gave it a bit of a play in the evening and was addicted. Great Dreamcast exclusive that I can see myself putting some time into to check all the areas and improve my score.

The first Neo Geo I've seen for sale apart from the old mail order ads in super play back in the day (and ebay of course). Turned up on my local Facebook group of all places! Currently enjoying Neo Drift Out, Last Resort and Mutation Nation. Loading times are not as bad as I was expecting either.

How are the loading times mate? I've never owned a CD so would be interested to know how noticeable they are these days when most games have huge load times.

That's one thing i have noticed about Cosmic Smash, zero load times. Press the start button on the menu screen and you are instantly transported into the game. No loading, no sign-in to this and that, do download just instant gaming and that's why I still prefer retro.

I used to have a Neo Geo CD and then upgraded to a CDZ, the loading times never really bothered me...usually less than 30s (maybe even quicker but can't remember exactly) on most games between levels. The point where it really gets annoying is on the games that have really bad loading strategies like later KOF games where it loads each character in a 3 vs 3 bout. It really gets in the way of gameplay.

However I was happy with the CD format playing Metal Slug 1 & 2, Pulstar, Real Bout etc. But then I bought an AES with an MVS adaptor and it's all 'reasonably' priced smiles, but really big shockboxes

Load times aren't as horrendous as reported, I was a loving CD owner since it came out and played nearly every game on it. Just avoid the KOF games after 94 unless you're happy playing with one character, and Last Blade.
