monster pulling Locke into that hole? You clearly see that the smoke has hold of his leg. Can I explain it? Nope, just like I can't explain why the smoke had images of Mr Eko's memories inside it. Have we ever seen the monster? Nope. Have we seen the smoke uprooting trees? Yes. Plus I think the whole 'monster' thing is way off anyway, it has sounded like a machine since day one, the very same sounds the smoke made during Mr Eko's close encounter.
