Hugo - excellent film. Really, really enjoyed it. Both my 4 yo and my 7 old thought it was great. I think it was a tad too long for my 4 yo boy, but he said he really liked it albeit he wouldn't have understood fully the nuances of the story. Well acted, well directed, beautiful story. Cast throughout were superb. Especially liked Sacha Baron Cohen - that boy can act. The 3D effects were subtle but Scorcese & the cinematographer really used the medium well. If this doesn't bag a few Oscars, I'll be extremely surprised & disappointed.

War Horse - rarely do I want to walk out during a film. Yes it's Spielberg so everyone has to love it, but it was ridiculous. Never has so much cheese been thrown on screen, it made Titanic look restrained. Some strange influences at work, from the Jackson LOTR Hobbiton during the England scenes (complete with music) and it felt like it wanted to be a Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie, yet failed miserably.
The Grey - awesome! Great cinema this, and not what I expected at all. It's borderline Malick at times. A film for menGreat ending as well.

I can see the US remake of Played with Fire being really good but they could easily bugger up Hornets'.
half brother
in an over the top fashion though. They'll probably make an over the top action scene when he f's up her on/off gfriend.Last edited by bash; 31-01-2012, 09:28.

-Pirates of the Caribbean
Still a fun and solid film, really backs up the idea that whilst Jack is the best thing in it he works best when used sparingly.
-Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest
Nowhere near as dry as I remembered it being, not quite as good as the first but not far off either
Currently on World's End, so far it's also pretty decent and not as slow to start as I remember it being

I just finished watching one of my all time favourite films again tonight, Almost famous, but for the first time on blu ray. I didn't realise it was some kind of directors cut, so much extra footage. I first saw this film on my first flight to NYC years and years ago, and it'll always have a special place in my memory. If you like the kind of music I do it's just superb in so many ways, and based in fact from Cameron Crowe's own life. And the soundtrack, oh my god the soundtrack.................

Descent 2 - I certainly wasn't expecting anything surpassing the brilliance of the original (only great horror film to come in nearly two decades), but this is actually the worst sequel I've ever seen. Poor in absolutely every area. I was almost pissed myself laughing at several points that I can only assume were supposed to be horrific/dramatic. The pivotal scene with male cop had me in stitches. The unbelievably ludicrous twist ending was the sparkler on the ****-sundae. Definitely worth a watch if you enjoy so-bad-it's-hysterical films, or if you want to see a textbook example of how to make a piss poor sequel.
