Been a while since I saw an entertaining horror from Hollywood (although Mirrors was worth watching purely for the jaw scene). Martyrs was good though, only torture flick I've seen that I thought was enjoyable

Went to see Coraline last week. Lots of fantastic ideas and a good movie but it was very slow and the pacing was off. They spent too long on certain parts and rushed most of the cool bits.
Also watched,
Zack and Miri make a porno - dull, like most of the comedies from those guys.
Rescue Dawn - Enjoyed the second half. One I'll watch again but not for a long time.
Taken - Dismissed this after seeing an interview on the Daily Show with Neeson but it turned out to be a cool flick.
The Big Boss - Noice.
Saw the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are when I saw Coraline. Looked promising.

The other week i watched Win a Date With Ted Hamilton lol........... was bored and figured what the hell! It was a typical teenage rom com, although it is quite old now, but nothing too taxing on the brain so thought id give it a look see. Not much you can say about the cliche unrequaited love thing, and hollywood being what it is, means an expected ending. 6/10 for the Bosworth factor
Sky was showing the Mist all last week and i sat down to watch it whist eating my dinner. It was very slow, and the effects were a bit meh. Gruesome yes, but painfully cgi'ed in parts. Some annoying cast members and in true Steven King fashion an unexpected ending. I have to admit whilst watching i did ponder how they would end the movie. But worth a watch, although i didnt know any of the cast members....... the film had a very TV movie type feel to it in many ways. So err a 5/10 for being too long and not having atleast one hot girl in it.
I saw Coraline last weekend, it was better than i thought, although it kinda dragged a bit in the middle - gotta say though it got a bit creepy in some parts, how the kids feel about buttons after watching this i dont know! lol......... Overall i da say 7/10 it was imaginative and the character Coraline was voiced very well with some very interesting facial expressions.
Also saw Fools Gold with Kate Hudson and Mathew Mc whats his face - bull****ter dudeIt satrted out quite funny, but dragged on way too long. Not bad for a lazy morning of tv, but not a must see by a long shot. Id give it an average 5/10
Finally got round to seeing Underworld - rise of the Lycans. It was a decent movie with some gruesome fight scenes. But the film is a prequel and i was VERY dissapointed when i found that THE Beckinsale was not in it - Boo.......... (a blink and you'll miss her part is not worthy of the entrance fee in my book) But it was a decent watch and helped you to understand how it kinda all began and why things became the way they are in the earlier two movies. An ok 6/10 from me id say.
Next two movies ima probably watch are Wolverine and National Treasure 2 (well they are on my to do list so i need to get through them soon).

in the book, they just drive endlessly through the mist which has seemingly consumed the whole of America. The film ending is less bleak for mankind but incredibly harsh
Rise of the Lycans was ok. Largely forgettable but brainless fun. Suffers from knowing the plot beforehand

Abigsmurf - I didn't know the ending from the book was different, but figures how they would change it for the movie. I guess they wanted to audience to have some form of closure and cap it off in some elaborate way. Still can't believe what happend in the car though...........Thanks for the info!

Liv Tyler annoyed the hell out of me though.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers was on Virgin last night. The Donald Sutherland one. Man, that is one amazing movie. I love it. Yeah, it's a remake but it's from a time where they weren't just remaking everything because they were creatively bankrupt.
A really eerie movie and one of those films that really has me feeling like the main characters. Most movies aim for that but don't always succeed. But watching Body Snatchers really makes me feel that paranoia. Has me wondering, what the hell would I do in that situation?
A great movie!

A lot of the late 80's early 90's remakes were great. The Fly is obviously a great one although there were no scenes that disturbed me as much as the 'heeeeelp meeeeeeee' from the original.
The Village of the Dammed one was good, didn't have the oddly comic "A brick wall!!!!" scene from the original.
If you haven't seen it, watch The Faculty. It's The Thing meets Bodysnatchers and it's pretty enjoyable.

Fermat's Room - Kind of like a thinking man's version of Cube. It is a Spanish film about four strangers are stuck inside a room. Every few minutes the walls of the room will close in, unless the four people can solve various riddles. Found it quite enjoyable, but after a few beers it took a hell of a lot of concentration to keep up with the subtitled riddles!
